Yes Please. I just bought the restore and System CD's directly from Acer.
Unsure if there is the rytools or the "napp.dat" but I guess you have the answer.

    So please....do tell....DO TELL!

    @andyasselin

    An Acer Aspire 5315-2698.

My Wife, for my christmas, bought it from an R-2-O vendor, who, unbeknownst to her, BOOGERED IT UP.

No eRecovery. (True Image Secure Zone instead of PqService/AcerService)

No using "green E" button to powerup lappy to Acer Arcade.

And I kinda want those things.........but the r-2-o vendor thinks that I'll be better off with a half-boogered product..

And no, I can't go in and complain, otherwise they'll say "gimme the unit"
and I just wiped out their partitions. (not before I backed them up but...I used PQI drive image. and put those to 3 DVD+R-DL discs)

the vendor thinks that this Ought to be the way I must receive acer product.

    Uh Uh.

Cannot hand it back to R2O vendor and say Give me something else. It would break wife's heart. Said she bought it outright and all...(yeah right.)

So that means I gotta eat $900.00. when all is said and done (yeah....ouch!)

Well, if I gotta eat that much (on top of $41.10 for eRecovery Discs from acer, as appetizer) I want a perfect meal, dammit! with a functioning green 'E' on top for dessert!

SO THAT is why I need a napp CD for this model....

    thank you.

Also when I LLF'd the lappy's HD...(had to, pqservice was gone!, I recovered some stuff using active@undelete, but it's boogered up with parts being overwrittten and rytools was gone as well.) and reinstalled using the 1-SCD/2-R-DVD's that i bought from acer. I thought that would bring the pqservice back.....NOPE! still just one big harddrive, No three partition setup!

Cannot accept acer telling me that once the service partition is gone, then its gone for good. and have to pay mucho $$$$$ to re-napp the lappy....I'm already over a barrel with the R2O because wife really wanted me to have it for christmas. And so do I. I want to someday re-upholster the lappy with fake alligator skin material. so that It matches the color scheme. THEN it will be SHARP lappy! Just imagine....Openeing the lappy and finding the keys are wood (same wood from cherry scrabble tiles) the trim is the same wood texture....sharp!!!

Now...tell me how this editing the iso works....I assume it's the system CD, Right?

The "green E" button does not powerup to Acer Arcade. If you have a standard Acer default install, the green button only brings the Empowering Technology software to the top of your desktop. If, after you receive your recovery disks from Acer, you want to have the standard partitions that the Acer usually comes with, you will have to repartition your hard drive manually. I also have to ask, is that $900 for the 5315 American dollars? Cause that is way too much for an Acer 5315.

You need 15 posts and then to wait a couple of hours.

Anyway, I made a NAPP CD once. Well.. I modified one is more right to say. It worked and I still have it but it's for a tablet pc, ACER C110, and probably won't work for you. If you still want to give it a try though e-mail me.

Let me explain.......and sorry for the long post and sob story in advance....

R-2-O means rent to own....here in the states what R-2-O vendors do is double the price of the product, and you pay, over time, ($25 a week for example)....to that inflated price...that is how R-2-O people make their money....

My wife really wanted me to unwrap a laptop for christmas....Giving it back now would break her heart. I ain't breaking her heart. I went down this road before, with her. Last time I had to give it back, because I couldn't afford the $130.00 monthly payments the Other R-2-O was charging me.

About 9 months back I got a gateway P-III solo lappy, for $20. Dead. Told All I have to do is fix the dc jack, and the watch battery. an everything would be fine....took it apart, relaized the battery holder was not soldered on right...took it to repair dealer in pieces. had them give me an honest estimate, said they couldn't fix it because they couldnt work that small scale...and broke off the rest of the holder for good measure...said all I could get was $4 bucks just for the HD and maybe the LCD screen explainig they didnt have testing equipment to cover it...........wife tossed it mad as hell that $20 bucks got suckered from me....
at least I was able to keep the HD....but i shoulda kept the lcd because.....

About a few months back i got a P-III Stinkpad, with a 40gig drive for about $40 bucks! It was good. then three days later...Wife came in my den and tripped on something and hit her hand on the lid and cracked the lcd. Wish i kept the previous lappy parts, because I coulda used that LCD.....It's now in pieces somewhere in the house....but at least I got software for it...I think.......

So....been going without a halfway decent lappy now for over 10-12 years....everytime I got one....there's always a catch to it.....and I had to either give it back or see it in pieces.

Well I figured that this time when I opened up my christmas present, would be no exception. Most every other guy who went down roads like I went down would have returned it, and told their honey Well, we'll just get someting else....Well, I can't break my wife's heart...I'm too soft...

But at least I can go ahead and get this POS lappy in decent shape...
and that means getting the thing into factory showroom shape.

To patel...Yep...900 dollars IS too much to pay for an Acer Lappy. but when your wife gets it as a christmas present to you, It kinda puts you in an awkward situation. She's paying 25 a week for it...and well, I aint got the heart to give it back...I kinda like the shape of it....and plus I dont like the idea of sleeping on the couch permanently....so 900 is paying for peace, quiet, and harmony in the house....

I may just write a song about this, and see if American Idol would audition me.....call it Laptop blues, or something.....I dunno.....

Aaaanyway I've wrote too much already.....I kinda have that nasty habit.
Sorry to strain your eyeballs, folks.

Naw, but thanks anyway ATG....I gotta have not only the recover partition back, but I want the partition that has Acer's version of Hp's Media direct, called "Arcade"

and I would like to power up to that Arcade partition, using the green E button.

but here's an idea.....Acer has for their Atheros line a 2 - DVD iso download called easy Build 8 ...can it work for me?

But if it doesnt........then I would like to know how to make my own napp cd from the recovery DVD's that I bought from Acer.

Well, you're right....but then again....I'm kinda nitpicky....if I gotta pay 900 bucks, I want the HD in the shape i want it in.....even if I gotta chalk up 900 bucks as payment for peace, quiet, and harmony in the house, at least I want and expect a HD that isn't boogered up with stuff that keeps reminding me that I hafta be hosed for cash every week on a vista welcome screen. and No alt-f10 or recovery part, It just keeps ticking me off.....

PLUS....I want to be able to choose what Ghost image I want to restore to....If I gotta back up....sure there's third party Acronis (I know many people here say that Acronis is good and all) BUT! I recovered two TIB.files from deletetion, only to say True image cant open them up because they say its corrupted.....plus I tried to recover rytools, only to find out that they couldnt be recovered completely either......

I was expecting the SCD/RDVDs to restore the HD back to factory status.....well, you live and learn, I guess....

So I either need some files that I know the SCD/RDVD's are missing....or I need a napp cd that works for my 5315....

Yeah I know I know......Hairy Lee Says "Napp CD's are for authorized techs only, and not for public use..." Yeah. I get that.....that's why I want to make my own.....but I'm missing rytools...and I'm missing a few other things......
(actually I kinda like his avatar.... the two fried eggs and bacon smiling off the plate....I like smiley faces in food...)

Well, I blathered on again......sorry for the eyestrain, folks....

I have dumped the contents of my pqservice restore partition to disk so I can see what files are in it. I'll try to get a list of them compiled so you can see which, if any, files are not included with your Recovery disks.

BTW: You can't really judge the worth of Acronis True Image on the basis of recovered deleted files. If you had complete files, you could probably restore with no problem. For example, I have backed up my recovery partition to .tib files and have restored it with no problems when I upgraded to a larger hard drive.

Hey thanks paten! that means a lot to me.....bless you.

Well, The thing is I Like Ghost and Drive Image XML I like the idea that things can be backed up to *.dat files that can probably be accessed and viewed with third party tools.

I am familliar with ghost. I have a ghost explorer. And if there is any problems with *.gho files, I can fix them. If a TIB file gets corrupted, then it is just a data form of a brick.

Okay, I made a text file of the directories and their contents of the 5315 pqservice partition. It is 350 pages long(but only 1.25megs) so I won't copy and paste it here. If someone wants to host it somewhere I'll send it to you if you can post a link to it back here.

Please help me.

It took me more than a week to make C110 NAPP CD to work(mostly because the testing was done from another person, not by me. AND remotely.) so I can't possibly right a step-by-step instruction, it will be like writing a book. ;) The edit was made in order the CD to work actually with a C110 tablet with dead firewire CD...anyway it's a really long story.
I really doubt the C110 NAPP will work for Aspire 6920 unless its almost completely rewritten.

When you put the NAPP CD where does it stop? Is there an error? If yes what is it?

EDIT: By the way I don't think you need a NAPP CD to use the Recovery CDs on your laptop. The NAPP CD is used for older ACER models, like 3-4 years old.

Yeah this was exactly the problem for which I modified the NAPP CD, it couldn't pass through the drivers installation. But the guy was using a USB CD Rom, so I loaded USB drivers on it(many times, many drivers.).

I'd advice you not to go that way but if you want to torture yourself with it here goes:

    Caution:
    1. C110 NappCD need FAT file system, I'm pretty sure of that. So forget about NTFS. I don't know if Vista can even install on FAT, neither Vista x64.
    2. C110 NappCD is intended to reinstall XP recovery partition, in fact XP Tablet edition.
    3. C110 NappCD will NOT work for Aspire 6920 unless you know how to almost completely rewrite it.

    Instructions:
1 You can only work with the Boot section of the CD, which is NOT visible. You cannot just go to My Computer, browse the CD then copy/modify the Boot section. You need to extract it, modify it then put it back. So you need a software that can modify ISO files. I can't remember right now which software have I used back there. I didn't touch the visible files. I could figure it out even how to open them.
    2. You have DOS skills? You need to replace and add some files, then modify the existing BATCH files(.bat). So you need to understand what batch file do what. Then you'll need to know how to actually edit batch files.
    3. You need a CD-ROM drivers to load - a DOS CD-ROM drivers to be exact. I have no idea which drivers will work for you, I used generic USB drivers, like 4 or 5 of them, until I got one who actually worked. I cannot tell you where you can find this drivers. I was trying to load USB drivers because I wanted to make an external USB CD-ROM to work.
    4. When you pass through the driver loading(eventually), you'll probably face up more problems, like freezing on loading the recovery CDs. As far as I could find out, this was partition problem. You need to have at least 1 partition created, formatted in FAT32 or FAT16 file system.
    5. You may face even more problem than me because I was modifying a C110 Napp CD in order to actually work with the C110 tablet! You're modifying it to work with Aspire 6920, which has almost nothing to do with the tablet C110.

Once again my advice is - don't bother even trying it. You'll lose a LOT of time and I'm 90% sure it will NOT work.

OK, I've edited the boot files and replaced cdrom drv with comatibile one. It worked to the moment when the program asked me to put my recovery cd's and apparently there is diffrent image on my discs so I failed at that point. Maybe it need to be done either with northon ghost image or power quest one. I'm not sure. Anyway I gave up on it. Maybe there is someone who can ivestigate further more on this project and give us some clues. Let me know if I missed something.

Just as I said in my post in the previous page.

As I stated there, as far as I could find out the freezing was caused because of the wrong partitioning. It took us several tries to figure it out how the hdd should be partitioned in order to work.

By the way, when you're asked to insert a Recovery CD did the lid of your CR-ROM opened? If it didn't this means the drivers aren't compatible. Yes, they are installed and everything but if the lid is not opening at the moment mention above this means the drivers are NOT working fine. A driver problem could be causing the freezing too..

Yes, the lid of my cdrom has opened but when I inserted my recovery dvd's, after mayby 10 sec the lid opened again meaning that something is wrong either with batch file or juz wrong image format on dvd's.
ATG: if you were able to figure it out how the partions of hdd should look like so give me a tip.

Ok so you got the drivers to work fine, this isn't easy to do so excellent job man!

The partitions. This was really painful to do because I had no idea how to partition the hdd in order to work, the remote testing was giving me a hard time too, it would've been easier if I was doing the testing myself. I think we managed to do it creating one single C:\ partition with size 10GB and the rest of the hdd we assigned the rest of the unallocated space. BUT for Vista recovery CDs I'd say you give it 15-20GB on C:\. In our case the partition HAD TO be in FAT32 file system, I'd suggest you try NTFS and if it doesn't work try FAT32 but even if it does work in FAT32 I won't go that way because of the limitation FAT32 has..
If the above doesn't work try different situations. Try without using partition at all, or with smaller C:\ or bigger C:\ etc. etc. It's all about testing.

I really hope that NappCD doesn't looking for some files from the Recovery CDs for C110. If this is the case you're pretty much screwed because this will mean you'll have to modify the PowerQuest files(the visible part) which I was unable to find out how. I managed to "open" some of them but never found a way to modify them.

Good luck and let me know what happened, I'm really curious.

I'm bumping this thread up, because I am completely at a loss of what to do...

there has GOT to be a way to RECREATE (form bare metal- i.e. BLANKED HARDDISK with no partitions or no MBR) EVERYTHING that is supposed to be on the Harddrive when First opening the box out of the store.

Unfortunately for me....TIB files dont like me. How exactly can you extract ANY files from a TIB file when Acronis complains the File is corrupted? There has got to be a way....I refuse to admit that I have a data equivalent of a "Brick"

    Here's what I have:

the Acer 5315-2698 with the 120GB/112GiB SATA hard drive (HD completely blanked.

    The "bought from Acer" SCD/R-DVD's

The downloaded and burned to CD "Post ACER disk formatter CD"

Partition Commander or Acronis Disk Director Suite/ Paragon Part Manager (although I might need PTedit) from a ...certain....CD suite (starts with "H")

And A whole buch of torn out hair....

    and Umpteen cups of coffee....

And I think I might come up with a plan....so here goes...

    STEP ONE.
Boot into ...that certain CD...and fire up the Acronis...or Part Commander...either one I guess...and make sure that the following partitions are there...
The Acer system Partition (which would be C :(acer))
The Acer Data Partition (which is probably D :(acerdata)
    The "Instant-On" Partion ....
(Here's where I'm quite fuzzy about it...some folks say
"Green E" will *NOT* power up lappy into an "Instant On"
    Partition....while other sources say opposite)
And of course the "AcerServ/PQService" partition which is supposed
    to be "hidden"

[Note: there is some insight into the Dell system Restore and Utility Partitons that may be of some use...go google "Dell Goodell" to surf to Dan Goodell's page that talks all about the Dell System restore partition....maybe he has little tidbits about how Acer does things...not sure but worth a look]

And if they ain't there....make 'em

Then Put the custom Acer MBR onto the hard drive....

And then Run the Post Acer Disk Formatter CD....

[Here's what my problem was with "Post Acer"...Apparently From a bare metal HD without any partitions or MBR (custom or otherwise) "Post Acer" Could not "See" my drive...as if the Hard drive was on a diffrent controller than what Bios Said... all it showed was a Blank space in the HD indicator, where it *SHOULD* have said something like IDE0: WD_XXXX" ]

So now I have determined that the custom Acer MBR MUST be present on the HD Before running the "Post Acer tool" Of course this is Speculation on MY part...

Very sorry if this is not a complete Stepe By step Recovery-To-Store-Bought-Status-as-of-yet...I need your guys help again...every TIB file that I try to open in Acronis turns out to be a brick.

Don't like the idea of sending my HD down to ACER to get RE-Napped but...as I am now under warranty....It might be the *Only* Option to go....

    Insight and Tips Welcome.....

There no tips , if you work is an unorthodox method that consists No-free software as Acronis .
    And i speak as a friend !!

Its understandable that you were optimistic , and the upcome of your tests turned unsuccessful .

For everything it worths ... i will say that you are not the first .
Me too, and many others , had bust our heads in order to do things by OUR way.

Now , my piece of advice , about returning the laptop to ACER .
Do not ask to get RE-Napped , they will not do that in other HDD than the original , that laptop came with.
And if they do, they will charge you for it .

But if you demand one HDD upgrade , larger size from their own collection,
you will be charged for the new HDD , and the RE-Napped process , will be for free .

In simple words , you will pay one amound of money no matter what, in Greece are 70EUR. (RE-Napped process)
Instead of paying similar amount , just for ACER services ... you will gain a new HDD and services at the same value.

Few words about Acronis , its not Free , and i admit that i had used a non legal version.

In my case i used Acronis , to set partition size and transfer partitions,
between HDD on laptop , and the second new HDD on USB to IDE external box .
Acronis , was reporting the proper partition size , from the original HDD,
and with this info at hand , i was partitioning the new , so to have accurately re-contract the PQSERVICE.

With Acronis i transfered manually and the ACER boot loader , from the original healthy HDD , in to the larger newer HDD.
Its a function included to Acronis, but its not in front of your eyes.

This is the proper way doing things.
And when i say proper , proper i call the secure way for one job well done.

In order to be able to handle this matters, on my laptop.
I forced to spent money and for the external USB to IDE box, and external USB floppy 1.44 .
Those devices are called tools , and with out them i could not do the job.

    Its a Job ...

    bumping thread with an update.

Now have a 5315 pqservice partiton TIB file. Restored it to my sata drive...but AW, shux! left the external hdd connected. Must wipe drive and resote from tib again.

Now...there's an option on the first screen. Would you like to restore to factory default? Or restore using system CD's or restore from user backups?

Now...Here's what I'd like to know....Is there anyway to REPLACE the *.001, *002, *wsi, and *dsi files that are on the pqservice partition with the files that are on the "bought-from-Acer" S-CD/R-DVD's....have alt-f10 boot into the pqservice partition and restore tHOSE FILES. Assuming everything else is equal?

Thank you once again to paten, Kiriakost (for insight), paten, andyasselin (for fuzzy insight) ATG (for what, im not sure, but he was a help somewhere) paten, and paten, and paten.

Almost there. Couldn't do it without y'all. Rep points coming.

There is no need to post LONG messages saying that you need PQservice files ,
    so to rebuild PQservice .

We know that ... thank you .

yes , please that would be niice :p

could you upload that SWCD like napp? i wont mind the wait for downloading

my problem is that I lost ,like many of us(maybe not the same acer model), my 5920g PQSERVICE partition and Ive been googling around for weeks even p2p but cant find it anywhere. :(

so if anybody has it intact from factory, would he be kind enough to post an iso image or link or anything , or pictures of its entire content, (root directory, then each folder and subfolder) so that I could try to gather as much files as i can to build it up again. :)

any advice would be much appreciated!

and btw Peter88po your link says ......"The file you are trying to access is no longer available publicly.

Please contact the user who has shared this file with you.".....???
