I have an Acer 5003WLMi and I would like to add 1GB of memory. I did a crucial scan and they recommended some memory, specifically the DDR-PC2700 1GB CT478616. Now, I was ready to buy it, but on Amazon I did a search for DDR-PC2700 memory and found another 1GB DDR-PC2700, this time with part number CT12864X335. Given the sensitivity here, I would like reassurance, so is there any difference in these two parts and is it okay to buy the memory from Amazon, or should I just buy the one Crucial recommended?

Here are the links for each memory from Crucial.

Spec-wise and price-wise, they're exactly the same. I would just go with the one Crucial recommended. As long as you match the RAM type and speed (both of them match), it should be fine.

The reason I ask is because Crucial offers the CT478616 for $50, while Amazon offers the CT12864X335 for $38.

The check I did was on Windows 7 Beta 32-bit, so I guess you're right.

You don't need it though, judging by these guys you just need to know the speed and the ECC.

Well, I never upgraded to Vista, so I can't really compare. So far I have no complaints. Considering I'm running the OS on the bare minimums, it is running amazingly smooth. My CPU is holding me back, but I'm not really using it as my primary OS, so it is not a problem for me. There are a few kickers here and there (IE has a few glitches), but it is not a problem for me. And yes, there is a 64-bit version. Just remember, the beta ends on August 1 so you'll have to revert to your original OS.

I have Vista on my laptop as my primary OS, and the beta of 7 as my secondary. Driver support was great, I only had to track down my card-reader's drivers. As far as general use, it is MUCH faster when you do any of the basic stuff like opening a program or closing a window. No annoying sidebar either, but you can still have gadgets if you want. I'm still playing with it but it seems like M$ got it right this time. Now if I can only get a credit for Vista....
