Hi,
I just got a Aspire 5050-3785 with 1 gig of memory and want to upgrade. My user manual doesn't have anything in it on memory upgrade. Further when I check the online (at Acer) manual for this model (5050) it show removing a small door in the back middle, that i don't have. All I have is a large panel in the middle (goes almost the whole length) with two screws at the end. The panel has a little indent lift up in the middle between the two screws. The problem is that when I remove the two screws, the panel doesn't lift up, but seems to stay stuck in place.
My question? Anyone else out there have one of these and know if I need to remove any other screws, or do I just pull harder on the panel to pry it up?![]()
I didn't want to try that first, cause without a manual, I didn't want to miss something and break the panel
Thanks.![]()

The big door you found is the right one. You have to pry it off a bit of each side at a time, as it is held in place with tabs. Be careful not to force it too much so you don't break the tabs.

Make sure before you apply any pressure to the panel that all possible screws have been removed. If your 5050 chassis is anything like my 5102 then you may have to look for screws that are "descended" into small holes on that panel. If I remember correctly there are 2 screws that are on the surface of the panel but then there are a few of them that are like I said descended into holes and you have to remove these as well before the big panel will come off.
Also once you are sure you have all of the screws removed then as the previous poster said the panel is held on by the little plastic tabs which should gradually pop out don't try to force them take your time!
