Both my friend's 5672wlmi (2gb, ATI 1400) and mine suffer from missing keys when typing on the built in keyboard, especially on battery power.

The symtoms are much worse with my friends 5672 than mine, but I definitely have the problem too.

We have tried BIOS upgrades all the way to the 1.3234 version, with no help.

We have no problem at all with external keyboards. And the problem seems less when the power is plugged in.

I have read that the ATI driver might be causing the problem with the hot keys. That sounds reasonable since I confirmed that it doesn't have the problem when the system is started in safe mode so no drivers are running. That gives me hope that there is something I can do to help as opposed to waiting for BIOS fix.

Does anyone know if removing the ATI software and loading Omega drivers would help?

I have the machine running for the most part just like I want it, so I don't want to anger it with the change unless I have some assurance it's going to help.

    Thanks!

i never had this problem, but usually i install only the drivers of ATI, not the control panel (written in .NET) that seems slow down my machine quite a lot.

and i've the same firmware as you and the same x1400 videocard.

I do use NHC, but it did it before I installed NHC. Also, my friend's also did it before he installed NHC.

That's definitely an idea for me to try and see if it helps.

I am on a rampage anyway to get rid of as much Acer distributed software as possible.

One question: With just the drivers, is there an easy way to control changing resolution from when you are on an external monitor (1200x1024) versus in Laptop mode (1200x800)?

I switch a lot between using an external and laptop monitor at the office and the hotkeys are nice for changing the config without having to open windows and change settings and accepting those settings...
