I have a Acer Travelmate 3260. I don't like the bundled software that laptop come with so I wipe the machine and install XP Pro Sp 2 on a clean install. Then I downloaded the drivers from the Acer website. All went well until I got to the modem. I ran the setup and low and behold it didn't instal and now I have a yellow questio mark on "Modem on High Definition Audio Bus". I know this has something to do with the High Definition Audio driver and Microsoft UAA. The Audio driver install correctly and is functioning properly. I installed Microsoft UAA and then tried to install the modem driver with no sucess. Am I missing something?? I have tried everything I know and would not like to wipe the machine again just for this driver. Please help.
Thx

Well what's the problem? Do you actually use the 56k modem?
If not, then who cares if you have drivers installed for it or not? Just ignore it. -

I am sorry for being a real IT guy. I don't like any question marks in my device manager. Also if I just let that go I really don't learn how to fix the problem if I run across it again.
-
Well FYI I found a fix read below and it worked
I hope you can understand me, my English is not to good.
First of all, is the "BlueTooth Driver and application 5.01.1500" installed on your computer? if not install it, if yes do a right click on "My computer" then go to "Manage" and select "Device Manager". Go to the "modem device on high definition audio bus" do a right click, and select "Update driver". Go to the "Install from a list or specific location" and select "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install" click next and on the "Manufacturer" select "Broadcom" it'll let you choose "Audio bluetooth" and "High definition Audio", choose "High definition audio" and that should do it.
It worked on my Aspire 3680, hopefully it'll work on your's as well
When I tried to manually update the driver from the device manager and chose a specific loacation(the directory where I downloaded the Modem driver) it would fail. But this time I went to where it says where I can installthe driver from a list. I noticed Agere was not in the list so I choose Have Disk and went to the directory where the modem driver was and low and behold it installed. I know it doesn't make any sense due to I tried to let the OS find the best driver in that directory and it couldn't. Now I have a fully functioning modem and a clean device manager.
Thx

Being a real IT guy means all drivers for a machine are installed correctly and functioning. You never know when you might need to use the modem to fax something or where you don't have high speed internet access. I sorry I am self taught and have 16 years experience and I didn't get that experience by just letting things go. This is how you learn and this is how you use what you learn to make money. Knowledge is Power and Power is Money

A real IT guy does not come to online forums and asks random people on how to install drivers. So even if you figure this out, and install all the drivers, you will still not be a real IT guy.
-
A real IT guy uses every resource available to solve a problem. That resource could be a 14 year old kid that stumbled upon a fix or IT could be a hard ware PHD but you use every resource available and not be to proud to ask for help No one can know everything. Also if you have a fix for something it is your resposibility to let it be known to help others. That is why I posted the fix that I found to help some one else. I have noticed this is a common problems with no difinitive solution out there I just hope this will be helpful to some one else. Also if you don''t have a fix why in the hell did you reply. Basically you provided no help at all and in that case please if you can't help don't reply. FYI some of the best places to find solutions to weird problems is the usenet groups and forums just like this one.
Thx

Thanks PapaGeorgio,
You were correct, finding the resolution did help someone else out, another real IT guy that ensures his clients have all hardware available if needed, even if the machine is a rebranded make-up of components for which there is no convenient manufacturers website from which to down load all the drivers.
How annoying it would be to receive a phone call from my client in the middle of the night complaining that he can't get on the net in some remote mining area that only has dial-up, even though he swore to me that he would only ever need wifi. A real IT guy knows what clients are like, and makes damn sure everything is working! -
Dont know if this will work for anyone else, but I ran into the same problems and managed to solve it without anything to complicated. I actually just snagged the vista drivers for my Travelmate 3260 running XpSp3 on a longshot, and low and behold it works. Hope this helps.

the way i ALWAYS prevent this devicemanager error is to install the SOUND DRIVER immediately after XP install completes... then install chipset drivers..
basically i follow steps listed here

I had the exact problem on my Acer Aspire 9410-4226.
I must have visited ten web pages that offered random advice on what "might" fix the problem, but the suggested actions would have caused more problems.
Thank you for stating the issue clearly and returning with the actual fix.
You fixed my machine as well, over a year later. This is clearly an on-going problem that has not been corrected in the Acer XP driver set.

Thanks Georgio, you saved me a ton of googles. The rest of the guys that posted here can blow it out their asses. If they knew anything they would bring it to the table and share it with us.
By the way,I reverted my 3680 to XP and I had a hell of a time finding the driver page for some reason .So if any one needs the link here it is.

I had a virus/spyware on my Toshiba laptop, after quarantine and removing it, I do not have sound to include I have "newly found hardware" pop up during startup. However, when I try to install it, it asks for software which I do not have.
To include when I look in the device manager, I see tow "other devices" which have yellow question marks to them. They are: "Mass Storage Controller," and " Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus." Again, I do not have software to reinstall does anyone have any advice for this issue?
As far as my sound, I am not sure if these two items have anything to do with my sound of my laptop but I lost my sound. I still have the icon in my system tray or by the clock (whatever you call it) and I can access my sound through my control panel however I get nothing from my speakers. I fear that something got deleted that was important and I do not have the software to replace it.
Something else that is not as important and is minor, since the quarantine of everything when opening my documents or control panel it is delayed and freezes for about 2 minutes and/or has a flash light searching for about 30 seconds as if it cannot find the information.
Can anyone help me with these issues? I would greatly appreciate it and I thank you in advance.
Thank you,
Danielle -
What laptop do you have. This would help massively as it looks as is you need some drivers.

Well I have found: Toshiba Satellite P105 S6084, Genuine Intel® CPU T2400 @ 3.67GHz, 3.67 GHz, 2.99 GB of ram, Microsoft Windows XP, Media Center Edition, Service Pack 3, uh other than that I have no idea what kind of computer I have, I just got that off "my computer." I'm sorry I dont know much about computers but if you could tell me what or where to look for what information you need I could do that. I look forward to your response.
Thank you again in advance,

Might be worth posting in the Toshiba forum, as you may get a better response from there -
For whatever it is worth, THANK YOU SO MUCH. You have been a tremendous help and you have made my year! Without you, I would soundless and annoyed with pop ups of new hardware found. I know it sounds silly but seriously I am extremely delighted for your help and that it worked and so promptly. Thank you again! I dont know what else to say but Thank You!
