I have done a clean install of Windows and attempted to install the Connexant modem driver but it comes up 'Driver has not been installed : corresponding peripheral cannot be found'. Has anybody else experienced (and hopefully solved) this problem? Its an Aspire 1642 WLMi.

I've had a similar problem with my old backup-notebook. For whatever reason when I reverted to WinXP (it came pre-installed with XP but I upgraded later) it refused to accept modem driver that used to work.

That said I politely ignored it and disabled modem altogether- decided not to waste time on a modem I'd never use anyway.
In an emergency I'd rather use my mobile phone as a gateway.

I know what you're saying and normally I wouldn't bother either but this is not my machine it's for a technophobe friend who only has dial-up. I think (fingers crossed) I've solved it anyway. I did a driver search using the recovery disc and it seemed to find one it liked so I've just got to test it now.
