Aspire 7720-6604 Monitor Cracked. Is it easy to replace or should I send to shop? Where can I purchase a replacement and is there a special software to set it up again?

I wonder how do you get a replacement of your Laptop Monitor by not sending it back to Acer and how to you set it up yourself? LOL.
    There are no SOFTWARE needed.
It is all technical stuffs. I will say changing of Laptop Monitor is harder than changing laptop CPU, GPU, HDD, RAM, KEYBOARD and so on.

    ebay for replacement screens.

local repair can do it as well.

also, don't forget acer can fix it as well.

however, all will charge you for the repair.

Hi, I've replaced more than one LCD screen, I'd say it it less difficult than replacing the CPU or the GPU but you have to dismantle the laptop somewhat. However sometimes all this involves is detaching the surround to the screen. Sending it back to Acer will cost you more than the laptop is worth..

    No, it's not hard.

I have a friend who dropped his laptop, and then it began to show some lovely colours (xD), anyways, he just took a good screen from an old laptop, and mounted it on the old one. Now it's working again, but the hings didn't survive from, so he build new ones out of wood :O!

Now he has a crazy idea, to built the laptop into a glass-cover - then you can look into the hardware, and it'd be cool he thinks xD! He is very artistic :)

There usually are screws on the monitor of a notebook, but they are generally covered up with a rubber foot, or something similar.

Locate them, take it apart carefully, find the LCD part number, buy replacement panel and slap it in there. My brother who needs to be talked through burning a DVD managed to do it without even calling me once :)

It's not all that hard. My friend replaced the monitor on his Acer Aspire One himself when he dropped it (That too began to show some lovely colors as well). Way easier than having to replace the CPU or GPU for sure.

    @ JKINMO

If you don't know how to replace the monitor, here is the list of things you should do(I cracked monitor on my 7720 too, so I some have experience with this):

    0. Get a small flat screwdriver and a small Phillips scredriver.

    1. Remove any CDs, memory cards and similar from laptop. Disconnect charger and remove the battery.

    2. On the inside part of the monitor case you should see 4 rubber feet. Remove them. They should have enough glue on them so you can just put them back when you are finished.

    3. Under the feet you should see 4 small Phillips screws. Unscrew them.

    4. This part is a little bit tricky! Examine the area in which front monitor cover connects with back monitor cover. You should place the screwdriver between the two covers. While it is between them, move it along the connection area. In some places it should penetrate deeper in to the monitor case than in others. On such locations you should use the screwdriver to detach the front and back case. Be careful when you do that, because if you use too much force, the front and back case will not connect as perfectly as they did before the replacement.

    5. By now the front cover should be loose. You should be able to remove it. You will see the monitor itself, two metal bars holding it and electronics attached to the back cover. Carefully move the back cover so there is a little bit of space between it and the monitor. Do not remove it.
    6. On the left side of the left metal bar and on the right side of the right metal bar, you should see some Phillips screws. There should be 4 screws on each side. On the top part of the screen, to the left, you should see a thin wide cable going into the screen itself.

7.Disconnect the cable. Then remove the screws holding the screen. As you are removing the screws, the screen should disconnect from the metal bars holding it.

    8. Examine the screen. My screen had information about it on its back, on the left side. I use Au Optronics B170UW01.

    9. Find a replacement screen, and using the instructions on the above, install it.

When you handle the screen, do not press on it, or hold it tightly. If you can, hold it just by its metal edge. This is important because screens can be easily damaged!

I hope this helps. At least you will be able to judge if you should send the laptop to be repaired or if you can do it yourself.
