My Acer Aspire 5315, of which I used last night with no problem, would not turn on (no orange/green lights on the front, no response from power button), NOTHING this morning. I put it to sleep last night before I went to bed, as I always do. Ive never had any problems like this before.
I removed the battery and tried - nothing.
I swapped AC Adapters (I always have a spare!) - nothing.
Again, the lights arent on in the front that indicate battery charging or power with either AC adapter. When I press the power button, nothing happens - no fans, no beeps, nothing.
Any suggestions?

What about the battery inserted but the PSU not connected?

I hope its not my MB.... -
At this point it unfortunately looks like the mobo...

I had a similar issue with a Dell and since it was a business machine with at your office repair they came out and replaced the motherboard, not the problem, as it turned out the power button was bad and is part of the keyboard and so after they sent me a new keyboard the machine was as good as new(with a new motherboard after 3 years). Moral of the story is check the on/off button first.

Thanks, I will check the power button, but it doesnt make much sense to be that..
I put it to sleep last night. To wake it up, I press the space bar (or any key to that matter).
When I woke up this morning, laptop was off completely. No lights blinking indicating it was sleeping. No power at all. Like it just powered off and gave up the ghost or something, lol.
When I get home tonight (unfortunately I have college right after work so I wont be home til late), Im going to try to reset the CMOS or whatever I read here. You know, disconnect batter and AC adapter, and press and hold the power button for 30 seconds?
Heres a random thought... is it possible that the DC jack went bad?
On my last laptop (Acer 3680), the dc power jack went bad. Although, when it went bad it did it when I was using it, so diagnosing it was easy.
Just wondering... the dc jacks are ~$10 on ebay, new. I replaced it on my old 3680 before, and Im no stranger to opening up my 5315 (I replaced the processor).
Should I try this first? I'd hate to buy a new motherboard (~$200 - might as well just buy another used 5315!!) and find out it was just the $10 dc power jack!
Thoughts? -
If it was the DC jack the notebook would still work on battery.
One of the unlikely scenarios that I've seen here over the past few months were several cases of dead COMS batteries stopping notebooks form running.
Don't know how, don't know why but apparently they did so you may give it a try too- replace it when you have a chance. -

Great news!!!
No, the CMOS reset did not work, thats not the good news
I started taking my 5315 apart to get to the MOBO and CMOS battery... first step: Remove HD cover and HD.
Well, turns out my HD slid out of its connector about 1/8". I pushed it back in and it booted right up - Im on it now
I never tightened the HD cover enough after I upgraded my HD a year or 2 ago, and the screws loosened, which also hold the HD still and in its caddy. ((smacks self on forehead))....lol.
I will respectfully save my "get out of jail free card" for my Acer for another time...lol. Thanks everyone!
My 5315 Died :(
