Hope someone can help me
I have an 8930g (obviously) and i recently replaced the battery as the original battery would charge fully but only give me about 25 mins of use.
I am now on a third replacement battery and they all do the same thing - won't charge
Each battery came with some charge in it - for example, battery 1 was at 75% when I put it in. When I plugged the charger in, it would not go above 75% (stayed constant) - it wasn't losing charge but wasn't putting any charge in either.
I decided to let the battery run down to 0% and try it again. Now it just says 0%, charging (it's not charging though) as soon as I pull the charger out the laptop goes off as there is no charge in the battery whatsoever.
This is what I've tried:
3 different batteries from 3 different suppliers - all do the same thing - 0% charging
Updated the bios to version 1.20
Tried the batteries in a different 8930g - same problem
The laptop will still charge the ORIGINAL battery, but not the replacements.
I'm at my wits end here, as I can't have a laptop that only lasts for 25 mins on battery - that's why I bought a replacement battery in the first place.
This seems to be a common problem having read on the internete, but not of the fixes seem to have helped me.
I can deduce
1) - my laptop isn't faulty as it WILL put some charge in the original battery
2) - I haven't got faulty batteries as I had 3 differnt ones from 3 different suppliers
3) It's not just my laptop - tried the battery in another 8930g - same issue
All the replacements were the same voltage as the original - 14.8v. The ONLY difference is the y are 4400mAh where the original is 4800mAh but surely that can't be the problem?
Is the laptop tied in some way to only use the original battery

When you plug in the new battery and hover your cursor over the battery icon does it say "Plugged in, not charging" ?

Its says plugged in, charging

This might sound really obvious, but have you checked your power supply?

The fact that you say the original still charges OK gives you your answer.
Some Li-on batteries do contain electronics (referred to as smart batteries) and I suspect this is why the non originals are not being recognised correctly by the laptop. -
How would I know this before buying one? Not sure what to do now or where to purchase one in the UK that will work? I've had 3 with the same issue now. Did not know about this 'smart' thing
And yes, same with 2 different power supplies -

Same problem here
Purchased 2 batteries from 2 different sellers.
I thinked about an original, but then I saw this:
Acer 8930g new battery won't charge - Computing and Networks - Digital Spy Forums
May be even a genuine battery is not a solution.
From everything I found on web there is only one solutin - BIOS update, but unfortunally the latest version 1.20 don't solve the problem. I will try to communicate with acer support center and will post here.
