Hi,
I just had a blue screen of death (dump screen) for the third time in 2 months and after reboot, i get this screen:
![]()
What can i do now? I would like to recover the files i have in the HDD, as i know if i send this to Acer, they'll wipe out everything or replace a new HDD. Can i open the laptop and try to plug the HDD to some enclosure to get the files out?
Will that void the warranty?
Please advise.
Thanks,
EDIT: In the BIOS, i see:
HDD Model Name: None
HDD Serial Number:
ATAPI Model Name: None
WTH!

You can easily remove the HDD by unscrewing the left side panel on the bottom of your laptop. You can plug it in to any external SATA case. However choosing the software to try to retrieve the data with I have no Idea...
Before you do anything else, just remove the HDD and re-install with attention to carefully aligning the ribbon cable. Maybe you just have a glitch in the connection. If you are not familiar with ribbon cables and connectors ask someone to do it for you.
But whatever you do, make sure you you don't let some programs or operating system initialize(format) or write to the disk! -
Anyone knows how to remove the hard drive from the 1410?

The problem is that the HDD isn't plugged in properly. I've seen this before on my old Dell Mini 9. I would swap SSDs often, between the stock STEC 8GB and RunCore 32GB I added later on, and I would get this error if I didn't plug the drive in properly.
Open the bottom HDD panel and make sure that the drive is properly plugged in, and you should be good to go. -
Thanks, i managed to get the HD out and plugged it into a external enclosure. However, when i turn it on, i heard the HDD trying to spin but seems like it can't fully get it going.. it's like it keeps trying to start..
Now the HDD is in the freezer.. -

^ do you think Acer can just send me a new HDD then i replace it myself and send the broken one back? I dont wanna ship the whole laptop for 15$..
Thanks, -
Anyway you can try to send an email to confirm if they let you.
I too believe that DIY replacement is much better than letting them do it. -
I put it in the freezer overnight, then plugged it in a enclosure, it didn't boot up.
Opened a ticket to send in for repair.
But before putting it back in my laptop, i gave it another try and put it in the freezer again for 3-4 hours.
Now I'm typing this with the 1410 with the HDD in it hahahaha.
I made my backups, now i'm just waiting for the HDD to die again so i can mail it in for repair..
lol. -
Why would you put your hard drive in the freezer? Is this some trick I am not aware of to revive a dead drive?
-
That's what im thinking. WTH does putting a HDD into the freeer do other than create condensation on the drive once it gets back to room temperature? It's like that old myth about freezing batteries.

My ACER 1410 HDD just died! What can i do?
