First, I love this laptop, but I have encountered a little problem playing DVDs. DVDs work fine in Media Player 9, but the installed PowerDVD has a little, but disturbing, stutter every 10 second. I've treid to shutdown as many programs and processes as possible to fix this (I know now what the csrss.exe and smss.exe is and how to not start msmsgs.exe). I've played with hardware acceleration, both in PowerDVD and for the graphics card. But to no vail.

Am I the only one with this problem?

If it's not stuttering in Media Player, then it's a problem specifically with PowerDVD. Have you checked their site for updates? You may want to try upgrading the DirectX software and your display drivers. I had a stuttering problem on my desktop running XP Pro. I installed the latest display drivers & DirectX and it seemed to have gone away at the time. But it's now back and it happens in media player but not PowerDVD. So it's most likely my OS or maybe my HDD causing the problem. A reload of the OS will eliminate the OS as a problem.

I've found a fix, kind of... If I set the priority for WinDVD or PowerDVD to "real time", then the stutter is no more.

Let me say too, that I've ALWAYS found WinDVD to be less taxing than PowerDVD.

Dump that PowerDVD & leave WinDVD ONLY on the machine. I have an old Version4 cd that I keep around that has my favor version of itself as well as Acrobat reader 4. Kinda' like one of my favorite websites........ oldversion.com!!!!

Some of this new software is just getting out of control in the *bloat* dept.
