Acer 5920G won't charge. When I plug in the charger the light that normally comes on to indicate that it is charging does not light up and in windows the icon that indicates that it is charging does not come up either.
My PC is the Acer 5920G best buy configuration, about two years old and no components are overclocked.
I was using it when this happened, I just noticed that the light went off and then it wouldn't charge when I plugged in the charger. As far as I know all the other components work correctly though it does have poor battery life. I was downloading a large file so I had it running for about six hours straight if that makes any difference.
I've checked the charger itself and nothing came loose. The green light on the charger also lights up when I plug it in so it is probably not the outlet that is the problem plus I've tried it in multiple outlets.
I'm pretty sure its either the battery or the charger, but I would like to know for sure and get advice from anyone else who may have had this problem.
Thanks for your help.

So does the indicator of the charger light up at all? Or does it light up and then in certain amount of time it goes off?
I'm sorry but the information is a little confusing.
In my opinion though - it's the charger or the cable(the one from the charger to the wall). The light should always be on, no matter if it's charging or not. As far as I know when there is a problem with the battery the charger's indicator blinks but yeah - it's still on. -
The computer has a blue light near the power button that lights up when it is plugged in. That light does not come on when I plug the charger in the computer. The computer does not charge regardless of whether it is powered on or not.
The other light I was talking about is a small green light on the charger itself (not on the computer) that comes on when you plug the charger into the wall.
Sorry for the confusion. -
Hmm I just make a little test - I unplugged the laptop-charger cable and the light went off. So I guess it could be the charger and/or any of the cables. I still think it's NOT the battery.
Remove the battery and see if the laptop is working fine with the charger only. This will rule out battery problem. -
Sorry it took me so long to respond.
I tried that and it still didn't work. Good idea though; I guess that means that the battery is fine. I suppose its either the charger itself is broken or maybe there is an internal problem. I read on another forum that sometimes a pin inside the laptop can break loose. I was moving it while it was charging when this happened.

Thanks for the update and the link.
Yeah I guess it could be loose pin but hope not as it would be more complicated to fix. Hope you have some warranty left. -
I hope so too. Thanks for your help.

If anyone's interested it turned out to be a broken wire in the charger.

Yup, as I said this was one of the possibility and fortunately - the not too complicated and less expensive one.
I'm glad you've sorted it out. -
Hello Guys... i just read about homerthethief's problem and it seems to me that i'm havingn kinda the same problem. I also got an Acer Aspire 5920. I bought it about 1.5 years. I had no problems with it at all until now. No battery or charger problems.
Anyways... this morning my laptop was absolutely dead. no blue light in the back (showing the charger was connected); no green light at the front (showing the battery was full) nor "ambar" light also at the font (showing hibernation) non of them, nothing! - dead. Of course i tryed to turn it on by the power button but nothing happened.
So far so bad... then i realized that the charger was (and had been) conected to the wall socket (probably one day or two) and the green little light in the actual charger was flashing. As soon as i unplugged the laptop from the charger (the charger still connected to the wall socket) the green light turned from flashing to constant green (like it used to do always). So that showed me that the charger is apparently ok.
I've tried connecting in different sockets around the house with the same result : (computer dead, charger green light flashing while connected to the laptop - turning constant when disconnected from the laptop)
Please help me find what's wrong?
Thanks for your help! -
Hi Koggan
I had a similar problem with my 5920G (after 2 years of usage) and in the end according to an IT technician it was a motherboard failure. I tried different power adaptors to make sure that it wasn't that but all of them had the green light flashing whenever I was connecting them to 5920G. I tried other things such as testing RAM, GPU, CPU, BIOS but without luck.
I didn't have much time and my only solution was to buy a new laptop AS6930G.
Haitch has a similar problem like you. He has 4920G, here is the thread. His laptop is under warranty so after he has it back from Acer, he might know more about the problem -
Hi guys! I was reading this all last night cause I was freaked, mine wasn't working either. Like all of a sudden it wasn't reading that it was plugged in. I didn't figure it out then, but this morning I researched it on their website. This is what I did and it worked, I'm really happy about it.
1) unplug the adapter from the back of the computer
2) take out the battery
3) hold down the power button for 30 seconds (nothing will happen here)
4) plug the adapter back in
5) push the power button (this is where it will turn on)
6) wait for windows to load
7) put your battery back in
And everything will work fine, the battery will start charging again.
Hope this helps anyone else who may be having problems. -
Change the cable going to the adaptor, (the cablo you take electric to adaptor borrow from a friend and try) that worked on my old hp.
