How can I find out if its dual layer?
I'm pretty sure when it says doublelayer on the side, it means the same thing, doesn't it?

Yes, dual layer & double layer mean the same thing. Most DVD burning software should be able to list the types of media a drive can burn. There are system info utilities(Everest, PC Wizard...) which do the same as well. There are also some manufacturers who list the spec for their slim drives online as well. Just look for the make/model of the drive in device manager and search the web.
