Okay few questions, what does it do, does any power lights come on, can you hear anything happening (hard drive spinning up) does the LCD light up at all?

I think I know the prob. Is it plugged into AC? If it is, unplug and run off battery power. After plug it back in and see what happens... This is a common problem with the Acer 5012s. May be something to do with the Acer Empowering apps.

In quick response, no, Acer won't send you a new one.

Theoretically Acer will attempt to fix the current one that you have, if that is impossible then yes I believe they would send you a new one.

Have you tried the battery thing, that does resolve some issues, also you do have it plugged in and the battery does charge right? If it's not plugged in could just be the battery is drained, if it is plugged in, again try what was suggested above, remove the battery, wait a minute or two, then put it back in and see if that helps.

The problem: 2 weeks ago as my laptop aspire 1620 was in use and connected to the internet , suddenly run off having the following symptoms.

The symptoms: Main on-off button led stays on. Quick launch button for email also stays on as well as hard disk led is continuously on. The main processor fan is working but spining very slow. No response when i press the buttons. When i plugged out the battery and the dc supply the computer went off and when i press the main button to switch it on, for half second my computer seems that it is going to start up properly, but the same thing is happening again.
Notice I plugged my USB FLASH LIGHT and i saw that it lights for the same time my computer is trying to start up and then goes off.
What i did so far: Pull out the hard disk , the dvd drive , the modem, the screen , the graphics card, the ram memories ,the keyboard, the small battery , the main battery and installed them again one by one trying to eliminate any problem .I checked for damages on the mainboard or for eletronic componets malfunctions but i did nothing. I also pull out dc supply and main battery and pressed the main button for 6 seconds for resetting.

What help do i need: Does anyone know how to proceed on my problem
    Thank you in advance.

Your best bet is calling Acer tech support and sending it in. You should probably not tell them what you've done so far as I'm pretty sure that that level of disassembling violates the warranty terms. But I've never fully read my warranty either so I could be wrong :) Good Luck

    Hi again .

No Acer aspire 1620 still has the same problem. I didn't solve it.

(A few days ago i sent the laptop to the local ACER service provider at Athens (A****) hopping that they will answer me quickly what are the results of the problem. Unfortunatelly a week passed without doing anything at all. Got my self angry and i decided to take my acer back.As soon as i do something with it i will let you know. Don't worry we will share our problem.)

I called ACER Corporate support myself here. I waited 50 minutes for someone to get on the phone. After explaining the problem to him, and telling him that the PC is still under warranty, he refused to take it back and did not know what to do with the problem. Basically, I will probably trash this pc and the ACER company totally. These guys are BAD, UGLY with JUVENILE support. Never again with ACER. Check out the Toshiba P105-S9722, just beautiful, and a lot better. on a ratio from 1 to 10 between both, Toshiba is #1 and ACER is -10.

    My laptop is live again!!!!!!!:D :D :D :D :D
I almost don't believe it....check out the crazy story below

On 01/02/2007 my laptop crashed and i decided to sent it for service on 01/05 friday after trying to fix it by myself.
Today i went to the service point and got my acer back because i got ungry with them for the delay of the repair. One week ago i ordered them to do nothing with it.The laptop didn't go onto the bench for check. So when i took it on my hands i started visual examination for any damages and accidently pressed the main start button.
   the laptop began to work and boot up easy easy but correct. In the meanwhile 2 beeps heard from the main board which is a kind of trouble diagnostic code.(i don't know it. Does anyone know it?)
When i arrived at my home i reboot it and know problem. I also checked for errors thru the management tools of windows but the only thing that displays to me is one service control manager fault.

Really i don't know what happend guys....but one thing i know from my experience as amateur electronic engineer. Electronics are getting crazy sometimes and i do have stories to tell. ;)

Yikes, you think Toshiba is good!!!!!!

that's funny, i can't type how hard i am laughing...

i went throught 4 motherboards on my toshiba, sound cards GPU's speakers my screen, the only thing that di not break in the5 months i had it was the hdd, i mean the only thing.

when i contacted acer support i have no trouble at all, well after toshiba's support waiting for 3 hours on hold would have been an improvement(i wait on hold at toshiba once for 4 hours 20minutes) when i called acer it was 20 minutes on hold, and i arranged a repair in 10 minutes and i have my computer back in little over a week.
my toshiba spent so much time in the repair shop that i can't remeber much of using the computer... oh i remember when the Heatsink slipped in calss and made a horrible grinding noise :) ( i scared the **** out of the teacher, :) )

i am not trying to convince you to go acer again, but i am trying to convince you away from toshiba. there are alot of people here who will say the same thing

Get a dell, or if you can afford it an Asus or Leveno.

if at the end of the day you do go toshiba, Good luck ...
