    Hello all Acer folks.

Let me begin by saying I am an old Acer user. I purchased an Aspire 5684 WLMi way back in December 2006. New and out the box.

That was around the time I joined NBR. My very first post was a question I had about my lappie having a strange hump on the left side of the touchpad.

My original post is long gone (Google gives zero results)

Anyway, having this brand new lappie made me interested in becoming part of a forum on NBR. Namely the Acer forum.

Those were the days that everybody trashed Acer. This forum has seen product bashing beyond belief. Through users own mistakes and lack of willingness to actually "understand" about how and why Acer has a thing called PQ Service and why you should leave it intact.

Always reformat and screw the hidden partition was the order of the day.

So, Hoggie, BigO, myself, Evo was here too went on a mission of educating people.

Maybe, I am a bit more stubborn than the rest of the Acer crew..... Hoggie,BigO long ago realised that their time (lots and lots of it) and knowledge (plenty too) actually was not appreciated by the very people they were helping. Both of these guys went out of their way to help people with sensible and reliable advise. They were the backbone of this forum.

So anyways, at this time this forum changed from an Acer bashing area into a place where Acer owners felt comfortable and happy and knowledgeable about their lappie. And I believe it is still so.

The forum is still good. I tell it like it is. The experts don't post much here anymore.....but they set a presidence(spelling?) of excellence.

I am an Acer fan. Why?. Simply because my Acer has given me zero problems. Still. After about 2.5 years of continious use.

The Kitty Rose incident last night got me into trouble. Hopefully, I am on her ignore list now. I know that she was on BigO's list just before he lost interest here.

    Acer rules and Acer rocks :D :D :D :D :D :D

    Cheers and thanks
    Theo

Hi TeeJay, you certainly didn't offend me - I agreed with everything you said 110% !!!!
Unfortunately sometimes some people just don't want to hear or accept the truth.

TeeJay, your advice and expertise are certainly assets to the forum, and yes, you and the other elders like BigO and hoggie do set a precedence for excellence.
But like all of us, we're human and can make mistakes. Just think before posting - that goes for everyone.

Looking forward to working with you the next time someone asks a new question! (which doesn't need to be pointed towards our stickies ;))

You guys are doing fine in this forum and much appreciated. I pop in here now and then,I was previously registered under different user name and I managed to lose my password then I have now registered with this new password.
Anyway,I have to say that I am one of many people benefited by this forum, Andy helped me upgrade my Memory in my Aspire5610z lappie and I have picked up many useful suggestions from several posts here. All in all, this is a pleasant place to turn for help. Thanks again.

So true, I remember those days of constant Acer bashing. When in reality most of the problems where user related. TeeJay, you and the rest of those guys did a great job of educating and helping many people solve various issues. Some people just don't want to hear that thier problems are self inflicted, and there's nothing that anyone can say or do to make them realize it. You have been a big help in the past and I know will continue to do the same in the future.

What did we get in an argument about? For the life of me, I can't remember.
And that truly is the goal of NBR-Acer: join, listen, learn, and contribute back to the community.

Hi mate, read the kitty thread. With you 100%. I learned the hardway when I lost a lot of stuff. My own fault. Didn't back up. Lesson learned. So to everyone out there. BACK UP then if you do have a problem you don't need to blame anybody. And thanks for all the advice on the forum mate.

With reference to the original dispute with Kittie, my experience with an Advent machine might be relevant.
4 weeks from new, the battery completely died. I followed the warranty procedure, but asked whether I could just return the battery for them to test and replace. They said no way, the machine has to be returned.

Backed up everything in sight and checked the original backups I'd made worked. Sent it away.
It was returned with a note inside saying "Battery replaced Customer to re-install from his backups". Looked at the hard drive, which was partitioned in a very strange way, presumably to match their test procedure/files. Tried to do a complete re-install onto the new partitions, but it didn't work. Contacted support, they confirmed I'd have to re-partition correctly before re-installing.
Re-partitioned. Re-installed all from backups. The machine has been fine ever since.

I have 2 thoughts about this
    1. How would any casual user ever get their system back up and running without (possibly paying for) help?
    2. It's good that when a machine is returned for any repair, it is tested thoroughly. If this necessitates blowing all the files away, I suppose that's life. as long as you are warned.

So anyone here saying "You should backup" is on the side of right.

Ok I read the origional post, with some of the acer laptops the hitachi hard drives were causing problems and starting to fail, should Kittie have had one of those drives and the technician noticed this I would guess it would be SOP to pull the drive and replace it ...... It IS my shop procedures and I know of a few manufacturers that will do the same ( ACER is good for checking the WHOLE system normally)

Just thought I would pop my head in here and post.

I have also stopped posting as much as I should on this forum due to some of the issues TeeJay mentioned earlier. =/

I'll try to get back in it a bit... the only issue is we have people that just will refuse to take the advice / knowledge presented to them and then point fingers.

    Thus is humanity... /sigh

    Hi ellalan

Thanks for the kind words about the Acer forum peoples. And I forgot to mention Andy and all his hard work too. He is probably one of the most knowledgeable Acer guys out there. He was always popping in here and helping with everything.

There are so many new people here now that add value and positive drive to this forum that I have lost count.

It's a great place to hang out.

We have all come a long way since the bad old days. And stick around. It will get even better as a Forum.

    Knowledge is everything.

    +1 ellalan.

    Cheers,
    Theo

Thank you for taking the trouble to register with NBR to specifically make this post. It is your very first post and you made it here on the Acer Forum.

This is especially appreciated. Hopefully, if I rep you now you will stick around and help here too...

    We need members like you.

    Cheers,

Good to see you popping in here SSX :)

You were the dude that told it as it is. Learn't heaps from you and swallowed my pride because you were allways right. I never fought with you because you always made me think first before doing anything to a comp.

    Chuckle...Remember: "Google is your Friend" :p :p

Thank's for posting buddy. Those were the "Wild West" days here.

In some ways, I miss them.

Hey, I'm getting older though. And I guess, the whole Forum has matured and become a better place for all.

Excellent advise, still straight talk and proper help. No guessing.

    That's the Acer forum.

We as a community have come a long way. And hopefully, we will continue to grow.

On a sidenote: Acer has hectic hits here everyday. A lot of people worldwide visit here. They do not necessarily become forum memders....but they listen and always and learn here.

So, we must always do the best we can. We have to tell like it is.

Straightforward talk is the best. No hidden agenda's. Just the truth.

And believe me, this Acer forum has seen it all.

    Welcome and visit our Forum....

I'm closing this thread as it's completely offtopic and I think I left it open long enough.

Instead of posting here you are better off focusing your energy on the problems people keep posting and nobody answers..
