My fan seems to be contacting something within the case.

Sometimes when I startup or resume from standby I will get this horrible grinding type of sound from my fan. Someone told me that the fan in the AAO contacts part of the housing and causes this noise, but I was wondering if anyone else had this problem. I really don't want to open up my baby, but it will leave me no choice if this is a real problem (unless I can send it to Acer).

Also on a side note, AA1 Fan Control has been reading a constant 85C even though my CPU is only about 44C (according to HWMonitor). Is there a newer version of AA1 Fan Control out, or perhaps a better program? Thanks.

EDIT: Fixed the AAO Fan Control. I just had to reinstall that port driver.

A clogged fan its something common , there is no easy way to clean all that fibers and dust in it .

If you can not do it , send it somewhere for service .

I got my laptop used , and the first thing that i did was to inspect and clean the CPU fan .

Yes , not all people are familiar about doing such technical jobs.
But it had to be done .

The lubricant inside the fan is probably dry. The fan could also be off balanced because of little holes on the fan blade itself collecting dust.

How easy is it to access the fan in the AAO? I have the service manual, but that doesn't exactly tell me how easy it would be. I'm fairly good at taking apart small electronics for cleaning (such as a PSP), but I've never touched my AAO.

It took me less than 5 minutes to take everything apart. Remove screw on the bottom, use credit card to remove keyboard, remove the cover, remove the daughter board, remove the motherboard and there's nothing else to remove.
