I have an 8204 - the fan is always on but very quiet under normal load.

Even when I do compiles which take 50% CPU the fans don't get very loud at all.

It only gets loud when playing 3D games.

Yea, the fan really only kicks in for gaming, largely because the X1600 is firing off those electrons like mad :D

under light load, i never really hear the fan - much like the other guys said.

I still havn't been using this laptop much at work, but I did manage to play a 1/2 hour of Fear Combat (@ high settings) and it played it quite nicely!!

1 other thing i'm noticing with 8204 when i typed on the keyboard, I would hear a buzzing sound which from what I could tell, was fairly common.

This buzzing is NOT heard on my new 8210 - which is nice! It never bothered me with the 8204, but it is nice that it isn't occuring with the new laptop.

Any improvements on screen quality? Heard the original 8200s were rather poor.

I wouldn't go so far as to say the old screens were rather poor. But they are a matte style, so its not ultra shiny.

Nor is it the brighest screen out there. But I had no problems with my old 8204 and definately don't see anything wrong with the 8210's screen.

As for Notebook Hardware Control, i've been using it on both machines, and I love it!
