I have an Acer 8943g laptop running Windows 7x64 HP. I have 8gb of RAM and a core i5-430 processor. My problem seems to be that my wireless seems to be dropping a bit too much. My router is a Linksys WRT54g v8 that I've had for a few years and is only 5 ft from the laptop. When it drops the signal and I run the troubleshooter it starts back pretty quick and the problem seems to be to reset the wireless adapter due to a wire that is broke or not plugged in. That is impossible because I am running a wireless computer so they must be referring to the fact that the signal is lost and the solution is to reset the adapter, which it always does. Now I've checked the driver and it is up to date. The Atheros driver that is. There is an alternate driver made by Intel which is 2 months older than the Atheros one, so do you think I should change the driver to the older Intel or is there any other solution?

There is no such thing as alternative driver. You either have an Atheros card and use an Atheros driver or you have an Intel card and use Intel's driver.

I assume you've checked Acer Support site to confirm that your driver is the most recent. If that's the case you may be sure that your driver is not the most recent ;)
Acer never updates drivers unless proven that current versions kills kittens or causes spontaneous combustion of the notebook- anything less lethal and they don't care.

The most recent driver for Atheros cards can be found here.

I am sending you a snip of the Acer support page of the 3 drivers for this model of laptop. I always thought that 99% of cards in laptops were integrated. Where in my laptop settings would I find that I have an Atheros wireless adapter that requires me to use only an Atheros driver. Acer offers 3 for this laptop. Just show me the setting where it shows that I have an Atheros card? Built in or otherwise.]
If what you're saying is the case then there is no other solution for dropped connections, as I'm already running Atheros most up to date for this machine
Disregard my stuidity. I went back into device manager and noticed that it's the adapter that is listed not the driver. You click details to get what driver is installed and I do have an Atheros adapter so I guess I am running the most up to date driver. So I guess Acer must install Intel adapters in some of these models because there is a driver from intel on their support page. So I guess if I'm using the most up to date driver there's not much I can do to resolve the drops except to reset the adapter when called for.

Again- you are not using the most recent Atheros driver if you are using v 9.0.0.173
In my previous post there is a link to more recent version 10.0.0.75- check it.

As I said earlier- drivers on Acer website never get updated so checking with their website always ends up the same- it turns out you're using the same driver that they posted there.

Also Wi-Fi cards are not integrated- Mini PCI Express format is used. That is why there are three drivers available on Acer website. It's more or less random- you can get an Intel, an Atheros or a Broadcom in the same way that you may end up with a WD or Seagate HDD.

Ok. I installed it and at first down at the Tray it said didn't install properly, but then the application finished and it said that it finished correctly so in Device Manager it's definitely installed. I had to reinstall my key for the router for whatever reason, but once I did that it's up and running. I'll just keep my eye on it and if it starts to hiccup, I'll just roll it back. Thank you my friend for the update.
