    I posted earlier this week on this thread about the problems with my Acer Laptop: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=125381

    I asked this question in the thread, but no one answered it, so I thought it best to ask a separate question. Acer wants to replace with a refurbished unit. Has anyone ever received a NEW unit as a replacement under Acer's warranty or am I just holding my breath hoping for one?

    Thanks!

    Get a full copy of their warranty conditions. If they will not give it to you, demand one. Them replacing the unit with a refurbished one does not sound kosher.

    I believe the warranty conditions allow them to replace it with a refurbished unit if they desire. I was just wondering if anyone received a new replacement instead.

    If refurbed it what you get make sure the refurb warranty starts when you recieve it and doesn't carry the same warranty over.

    They can only send you a refurbished unit if it is of equal value to what it is replacing.

    replacement??? how did you manage that? I have had mine repaired 3 times, I asked before the 2nd repair for a new one and before the 3rd as well.

    all they would do is repair it!!!

    Ask how long the warrenty is, it should be as long as what is remaining on your old warrenty, or more.

    good luck!

    It was in for repair at least 5-6 times ... all for the same thing. I was very patient and undertsanding with the support staff but also very insistent "I want a working laptop. Is that unreasonable?" You get more flies with honey. Or at least you get a refurbed replacement. I'll call them tomorrow. I will insist on a 1.8 MHz processor (like I already have) and a 100 GB drive. Adding the extra memory should be pretty cheap and I think I have a chip that will work but I have never added it because my laptop keeps on being whisked away by FedEx.

    Yah I know what you mean, If acer is going to replace it, you better get:

    >= ram
    >= hdd space and speed(important)
    >= GPU
    >= processing power and core(s)
    >= warrenty
    == screen size
    >= CD/DVD/HD DVD/Blu Ray disc drive

    I could not get acer to budge in regards to a replacement... but its working now; well for the most part.

    Acer only considers replacements AFTER it's been sent in three times, i.e. the fourth time you're calling in. Nice folks but stupid repairmen.

    I'm not sure about you, but patience only runs so long. I had my laptop in for repairs 3 times and on the 4th time I demanded a replacement. I got a refurbished unit and it has been working fine for the last 1.5 months with no problems except bluescreens via stupid Vista. I can't complain too much about Vista since I got it for free which isn't Acer's fault. I actually got a better CPU, Ram and more HD space and better HD than my original so if I were you, demand for the same specs if you do not feel that the it is the same as what you had. I had the 3 years total protection warranty and it carried over from my old unit to the new unit so I think that was well worth it since if, God forbid, my unit goes down the sewer again, at least it is protected to the max.

    BTW, since you sent it in 6 times, I assume you live in a city of a service depot? Because even with the fast turnover in Canada, sending my unit from Vancouver to Toronto/Mississauga 4 times took roughly a month.
