One thing I really hate about Acer is their lack of "Asian patriotism". The Americans usually get all the good stuff while the Asians get all the crap. They should learn to be like the Japanese - keep all the goodies for domestic use but export all the crap but wrap it up nicely!

I also notice this here. That was one of the main reason why I don't buy Acer eventhough I am a fan of their notebooks...

uh, those specs on the Aspire 5672 are the same as the cheapest US model.

Core Duo T2300/1.66GHz -- same CPU as the US models. and it's the slowest standard Core Duo right now.

by the way, the Core Duo is obsolete and Core 2 Duo is on its way.

X1400 with "512MB hypermemory" -- that's the same graphics that the cheaper US version has. It really only has 128MB of memory and can use up to 384MB of system memory.

The other specs (945PM chipset, 3945abg wireless, XP Home, , DVD+-RW, 1GB DDR2, 100GB SATA, webcam, and 15.4" display) are the same.

Here are the two versions that are better than the aforementioned one:

what's the point of "Asian patriotism" in this context? acer sells products around the world and making significantly better products just for *one* local market (country/region) simply does not make sense if they think that product would be sucessful in other countries.

For real, why don't these companies just release the same product at the same time all over the world - then everyone would be happy!

    :D :D :D

I remember a lot of similar stories in news articles. But surprisingly the most actually came from my Japanese friends. Of course, they had the last laugh and the jokes were on us. :(

Funny, Toshiba and Sony pretty much invented this culture... :D

Acer is not the only one. Toshiba's Japanese and US notebook get the best high resolution TFTs while Asian Toshiba notebooks of the same models get the crappiest. Compare and you'll see...

Come to think of it, ATi used to do that too. I used to live virtually next door to the ATi Headquarters at Victoria Park & Steeles intersection in Toronto. At the time buying an ATi graphic card cost 20% more locally than ordering it from the US. "Price dumping" I was told...

Not that I am trying to instigate a war here, just stating the facts...
