Hello guys.i recently purchased an Acer aspire 3618AWLMi, and in the first few days the laptop worked perfectly. However, now after one week...the speed of the laptop has slowed down dramatically..and its almost like an old computer..even thought the processor is intel pentium M centrino. It takes a long time to open applications like microsoft word, but at times...the speed is back to normal.I am running Nortan Antivirus...and once it alarmed me of one theath and i fixed it and it said that the threat had been deleted. This is my first laptop and i would really appreciate it if you guys helped me out here because im not much of a computer wiz.Thanks.

What are the total system specs, ie. memory, hard drive, graphics card etc.

I'm guessing that you haven't gotten rid of any of the Acer bloatware that they ship with the laptop. A lot of it (personally, all of it) you do not need, and all it does is load up applications in the background that take away memory and processor resources.

You can also try defragmenting the hard drive as well regularly (once a month should do the trick)

The software I'm referring to is pretty much everything that is Acer branded on the laptop. If you go into Control Panel>Add,Remove programs you'll see a list of Acer software on your PC. Personally, I find it all useless and get rid of it all when I get my laptop (have had 2 acer laptops up to this point). I find most of it needless, though some people keep some software on. Its personal preference really. Some other folks might give their opinion on it to help you out.

Personally, I've found nothing wrong with Acer laptops. They don't feel as solidly built as some other makes, but for the price you can't complain.

Oh, and adding another 512mb of memory will always give you a performane boost. Personally I feel 1gb is the standard these days.

Another way to save system memory and speed up startup times is to remove windows services that are not needed. To do this, go to Start>Run and type in services.msc

You'll be presented with a list of windows services that startup when the system starts, these services are safe to remove in the majority of most home users.

As alex5523 said, try something else. You can try avast! (free for home use) or NOD32.
