    Hi:

I've been looking everywhere for a review on the ACER Aspire AS9502WSMi.

Can anyone help? I want to buy one but have no feedback from users.

    Thanks J.

About all you can do right now is do a google search for "Acer 9500 review". If nothing comes up, then there aren't any out there. I'm sure as the laptop gets more popular, one will be posted.

I've been looking for a review as well. It's a toss-up between the AS 9502WSMI and the TM 8104AWLMi. They both seem like great laptops, but the 9502 has got more video RAM and better battery life.

The primary benefits that I see in the 8104 are the wide range of ports, and the EZDock option that supports the express-card expansion slot. Plus, it comes stock with 1GB of system RAM. The fact that the video RAM on the X700 is 128MB instead of 256MB is disappointing, but may be offset by the versatility of the laptop overall.

Anyone else struggling with the same qestions? Any comments?

The 8104 will be more mobile.

Hi, I'm interested in this notebook too. Anyone know the speed on the hard drive? 4200 or 5400 rpm? :D

Hmmm....that definitely makes up my mind about 8104 vs 9502 models. The 8104 has 5400 RPM. Not that that's awesome, but its way better than 4200 RPM. Now, if that student financial aid check would just get here sooner.....

Well, the ATI X700 that's in the 9502 and the 8104 isn't DESIGNED for CAD work, but it'd probably be just fine. I would check with the software vendor first, and see what they say.

I work in a printshop where we do ALOT of CAD printing for engineers and architects. I know that the desktop workstations that they use are pretty beefy. You'd need a desktop-replacement class laptop to get that kind of performance. These Acers just provide a great balance in a mid-sized package. Their lifetimes before obsolesence aren't going to be as long as a desktop-replacement either. The 9502's greater video RAM may be nice, but the lower RPM HD might be a hinderance, especially to a CAD app.

    Hope this helps!

BTW, I ended up buying the TM8104AWLMi, and I LOVE it. Haven't got a chance to try any gaming yet; too busy with school and work and upcoming baby, but the reviews I've read say it play Doom 3 without a hitch. That's good enough for me!

I have just ordered a Acer Aspire 9500 AS9502WSMI, as soon as it gets in I'll start working on a review. I will hopefully get some benchmarks and some other good info for every one. I do not have a digital camera so I can not provide pictures unless you want some super low res pics from my Nokia 2555i.

I should be receiving the notebook by 03/17/06, so look forward to a review with in a week or so of that date. The review will also be dependent on my work schedule as well.

I also ordered 1GB memory module and will do some benchmarks on the stock system, then do some benchmarks on the system with 1.5GB of memory.

Can I upgrade this notebook with another processor like Centrino at 2.0 GHz ?
