Hello, as stated in the title, i need to buy a notebook for my major (architecture) as well as for general college purposes. Are there any laptops that would you could suggest? It needs to render pretty quickly, have a hefty harddrive (80+gb's), have a rather large, but not too large screen (15"?), and be reasonably quick (1024 ram/1.7+ghz). Im looking to spend around 1000-1500. thanks for helpin me out.

lol i guess he's not only look for acer but wandering for all laptops.. looks like you're a newbie on these things...
I guess it is not easy to find laptops on your budget that have a nifty graphic card to be able to render fast... I would suggest find by GRAPHIC CARD than all the rest. Maybe nvidia 6600 or 6800, or x600 or better yet x700(this usually found in acer products) and usually when you get good graphic the specs well balanced with it. Another good ones to consider are chembook 2030 or asus z70v or z71v(forgot)
good luck with the laptop hunt! dont hesitate to ask question!
EDIT: forgot to mention these laptop above should run below $1500.. and I recommend Acer travelmate.. they are sweet and affordable.. especially if you dont mind graphic. :)

yea i originally posted in all the laptop brand sections (sorry)... Brand doesnt matter as long as it suits my needs. I realize i can upgrade the ram easily.... however it is usually coupled with the processor and even the harddrive (ie a small harddrive usually will have little ram and a slower processor).. However, i'll look into those graphics cards, thanks. Any other ideas?

Look at one of Acer's laptop with x700 in the price range of 4102 etc and get more ram and upgrade it by yourself. The new Aspire 1694 seems to have good specs(2ghz PM, 512mb ram, 80gig hd, x700/128mb) and price is good too, but i'm not in US.

Travelmate 4400 will get you close for under your budget. Or, if you don't mind a little extra weight, check out the Gateway Athlon 64 3700+ notebooks that Best Buy sells. Or, check out one of these:

    http://www.xmeld.com/html/msi1029.html

Their email customer service is very responsive, they say new orders will ship around the 22nd. These notebooks just started shipping, I've seen no reviews, but the specs are EXCELLENT. They use the AMD Turion MT-series (25W) 64-bit CPUs. I'm thinking about getting one.
