I have an Acer 5935g, and i've been trying to connect to my Toshiba Hdtv via Hdmi cables. But when its connected my screen flashes but nothing happens, my brother has an acer laptop also and new display settings popped up and it worked straight away when he tried connecting his. I think its to do with my NVIDIA graphics card, because when i first connected it, it asked to increase to high performance and my brothers acer doesn't have NVIDIA.

Or it might be somthing simple to do with display settings as normally 2 boxes shop up on display settings but when its connected it shows 4 saying ( Multiple monitors) on NVIDIA GeForce GT 130m.. but my tv screen is still blank : /.

Any help will be appreciated :)

Did you use the same HDMI cable when testing your brother's laptop?

Yup, but it was on a different tv. But they are both hd, and i use the hdmi port on my xbox all the time so i'm pretty sure its not the tv. Is there anything you have to change in the display settings or something?.

    Try "Identifying Monitors"

and/or manually select one of the other 3 grayed out monitor boxes, and extend your desktop to the appropriate box.

I figured out how to do it :D, i pressed FN+F5 and it brought up display settings for my tv. But is there a way to play the audio from the tv and not from the laptop?, thanks in advance.

right click the sound icon near the clock, click playback devices and change the default to hdmi.
