I can't really help. My 2920 came with Vista and I don't think Acer in most of the world supports XP (or Windows 7) on this machine.

I have found some XP drivers for it, but can't remember where. I think it was a Japanese site, and I haven't been brave enough to try to move to XP.

The machine should have come with a hidden partition and a recovery CD. These two together should be able to restore Vista. If you format the drive you will probably lose the hidden partition, and thus lose the ability to restore Vista.

I suspect some of the nice features, such as the front volume control, depend on having all the right Acer specific drivers, so I've reluctantly stuck to Vista.

    I'm afraid I don't understand the question.

The 2920 comes with Vista, and on the Acer sites, the only drivers are for Vista.

Is your machine running Vista at the moment? If so, I'd leave it with Vista. If you format the drive you may find that you have blown away the small, hidden recovery partition and can never re-install Vista.

My machine works well with Vista, even for audio work, so I will leave it on Vista. It isn't a current machine and I don't expect Acer to produce drivers for it for Windows 7 or XP.

I've had a look round various Acer sites and it looks as though links from
    http://support.acer.com/#results
lead to XP, Vista and Vista64 drivers, so I'd guess that the XP recovery disk should be OK and you ought to be able to install from a format and standard XP installation disk.

What I've been suggesting is that if you come to partition the disk before formatting, and find a small (on mine about 9GB) recovery partition, try to leave that there.

It is still odd that the Acer FTP-based driver sites, which I've always understood to be the main source for drivers, still don't seem to have XP drivers.
