My LCD cracked so I ordered a replacement from a dealer who sent me some multi plug replacement. The plugs did not match but there tech told me the plug would still work because it was either 1 power or 2 (the 5th wire). Well the moron causes me to short out the LCD AND my motherboard.

I can see the part that got damaged and they did refund me for the LCD but previous to this, the laptop worked, I could use it with an HDMI monitor, now it won't even boot.

I need to schematic so I can try to find a part number and type of part so I can order one. ANY help woud be great. It's alittle square thing soldered on to the motherboard with some tiny white lines and I think an A6 on it but other then that I have no idea what it is. I can handle soldering it in, I used to do modchip installs in PS2, Xbox's etc I just need to identify the part first.

    Thanks.

PM sent. Potentially useful info resembling a service manual...

No, I got side tracked with collage classes. I'm still trying to get this fixed. I tried the repair manual that "downloads" gave to me but it didn't really seem to identify the part that I could see. It only listed FRU's (field replacable units) which would be like replacing the WHOLE motherboard. The boards run about $100 bucks, that part shouldn't be more then like a dollar or so. I don't really know the technical terms for all the little parts but I'm one HELL of an artist with a soldering or reflow station, steady hands!

I've been installing ZIF sockets and replacing caps in Mitsubishi sports cars for years. Installing modchips in PlayStation's, Xbox's, re-flowing Xbox 360's, HP DV series laptops etc for ages (talk about some hard work!). Anyway if I can just figure out what part I need, I can replace it, I just don't know how to identify the particular part.

Here is a picture of the part, it's the one located at D2, right there in the middle of the photo. Sorry for the fuzzy picture. I looked on the motherboard and I see several others of the same part.

The identifying marks on the part would be "A6" on one side and 5 little white lines on the other.

Would help if I knew WHAT that part was called. Anyone wanna help me out here?! :)

    Anyway, the picture:

    You mean this one...

Its a diode. As to what spec and type... well it depends what its used for. The problem is that there may be other parts that have failed too as a result of this.

Assuming a "normal" diode then something like this would be a fair guess,
    ON SEMICONDUCTOR|MURS320T3G|DIODE, ULTRA FAST 3A 200V | CPC

Its possible it could be a transient suppressor type device or a "zener diode" too... if so you would need to see a circuit diagram.

If you can power the thing up with it all in bits then I would remove D2 and tag in a conventional diode something like a 1n4004 just to see if it works.

Yes that one. It won't power up at all. That is the only burned piece I've found though. I suppose some parts could be bad without being burned though.

I figured it was worth a try. It's was almost brand new. My wifes friend, well someone she knew anyway bought it about 4~6 month before we got it. He had stepped on it, cracking the display. He tried to have it replaced, found out the display was like $500 bucks so my wife bought it for $100.00. I found a source for Samsung LCD's for $89 so I ordered one. The plug didn't match, I kept trying to tell the vendor that and they kept saying no worries, it's a universal display, plug it in like this, blah blah, it will work.

I plugged it in like they told me to, 4 pin into a 5 inch jack, shifted one pin to the left and ZAP! That diode went up in smoke.

Well I guess it has to be worth replacing the diode with a common type just to see if it powers up... but don't get your hopes up.

See if this helps any... The board code is "DAOZK2MB6EO Rev E"

DAO = Quanta Computers... Then you disregard the last 5 digits too which leaves us with ZK2... The motherboard schematic I need if for a Quanta motherboard model ZK2.

Anyone know where I might find that?

OK! The file I'm after is: ZK2_UMA_FORRAMP-0709.pdf

I found it if I want to pay for it, but there has to be a free site. Google failed me though. Anyone else one with the Google Foo!? :)
