I'm using Acer Aspire 6930. i want to upgrade its RAM. presently it has 2Gb DDR2 RAM. There are two slots. One is used and the other is free. If I put one more 2Gb RAM, is it worth? Does system performance improve?

If so, I'm confused with which one to use. Below are the specs.

in the above specs, it shows 333MHz. In the manual, it is written upgradable to DDR2 667MHz. So does it mean I can't use 800MHz RAM?

here is a link in which I found one. check this link and could you please confirm whether this is suitable or not...

DDR stands for double data rate so the effective frequency is double hence 333MHz and 667MHz confusion. It's the same.

You could probably use 800MHz RAM but it would work at 667MHz anyway.

As for the improvement- yes, adding more RAM would speed things up. You could add another 2GB module to bump it up to 4GB total which is fine for a vast majority of users.

No, it should support 8GB RAM (if the chipset was the limiting factor) but for one reason or another it only supports 6GB.

    Thanks I'll try a 4 Gb 600 mhz ddr2 alone and then I'll add a 2 Gb 600 mhz ddr2 to it .

    I'll keep you updated

I've read somewhere that the motherboard of the acer aspire 6930G can handle the DDR3 memories . But not sure if it was the 6930G or not. Did you ( M downloads ) tried some of these on any aspire 6930G ?

Well there are two things - one is what the chipset supports and it can support both DDR2 and DDR3 and the other thing is what accrual memory slots are installed - if the mobo has DDR2 slots than that is it.

I think that earlier versions had DDR2 and later DDR3 but I may be mistaken - so many laptops over the years. Anyway whichever type of ,memory you have you will have to use so if your came with DDR2 you can't upgrade to DDR3

Thanks . So the best thing to do is to put a 4 GB and a 2 Gb both ddr2 and 600 mhz .

    Thanks for your help.

how have you finished bro, added 4 gb or 2 gb slot of ddr2?
By the way, do it matter what company of memory to add, does it have to be the same memory of the same company?

    Hi bro
I finished having one memory of 4 gb of ddr2.

And for the question, it doesn't matter what company the memory is from. The only things to worry about are the frequency ( ddr2 or ddr3) and the max memory the motherboard can handle.
