    Greetings.

I have an Acer 4720G which I bought almost 1.5 years ago. Used it aggressively, dropped it several times but still runs strong. It runs Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit. I need help/guide regarding upgrading a notebook. If someone out there has the same model as mine and has experiences with upgrading, I would really appreciate your help.

The components that I would like to upgrade are RAM and if possible CPU.

Currently using Core 2 Duo T7300. If possible, I would like to upgrade to T7800 or any quad types.

Has a 2 gb of RAM, would really like to have a 4. From what I understand, because of the 32bit OS, it can only detect a maximum of 3. Isn't there any windows update that can help solve this? Because to me it seemed that 2 + 1 gb of RAMs a little bit odd.

Looking forward for suggestions. Thanks in advance.

I think you can upgrade to T7800, keep in mind BIOS update might be required. Forget about quad-core, they are not supported.
    Correct.
No. The problem is not in Windows, the problem is the 32bit architecture. So any 32bit OS won't recognize 4GB of RAM.

Well, the limit of 32 bits is 4GB in total, but for your computer, that's total addressable memory - everything it could possibly use. That means your installed RAM PLUS your video memory PLUS some kernel memory required by your operating system.
Thus, what you see in Task Manager is between 2.75 and 3.5GB.
