Howdy all, I was "LUCKY" enough to also purchase one of the fine pieces of quality laptop , but thx to a lot of folks here, I think I may have work thru most of the issues, like overheating, so tonight my wife is experimenting with her cleaned out and battery free Acer Aspire, I took the back off so I could personally get to the fan, it's not too hard to get to, but be careful with the little tabs, used a small screw driver slowly lift it up one tab at a time. So I have read all the post or most of them pertaining to the problems with the laptop, I want to downgrade the computer to XP and I also want to update the bios, now I am not a very dumb person, I can upgrade inside parts on CPU's, but when it comes to the BIOS and other crap, I am a little handicapped, in other words I don't wanna screw up my wifes laptop till I smash it with a baseball bat next year at tax time, so I need to know if uploading the update for the BIOS and the downgrade to XP is the right jobs for me? I think the BIOS sounds pretty easy to do, but I am not sure about the XP down grade, so any help is always appreciated, she is also havin an issue with programs not responding, is this one from the over heating or what?

Programs not responding (especially in relatively used laptop) may be because of congested/fragmented harddrives and/or viruses and malware running in the system..now about the downgrade to XP, if you're able to ask for a downgrade disk it would be easier, though if not there are a lot of guides here about installing a fresh copy of Windows..although if the notebook came with a recovery partition i think you should make recovery disks if you haven't already.
As with the BIOS upgrade, maybe you want to install XP first, since BIOSes are OS-specific, I think. -
and it is linked to all drivers you will need and bios updates.
use the search function

here would be a good place to start.
