I'm considering these two laptops and I was set on the 4404 because its the "newer" model and has more ram and a little faster cpu but I noticed the 4404 has the 4200rpm HD and was wondering if i should get the 4402 and just upgrade the ram...is the 4200rpm HD gonna make a big difference because it worries me a little? I intend to do some casual gaming(WoW mainly) and everyday activities like surfing and movies, etc. Any input would greatly be appreciated.

Hard drive speed mostly effects loading, So things like games and booting up programs will be a little slower, once its running its mostly dependent on the ram, It also effects video encoding speeds it thats a Issue. You could always user upgrade the cpu yourself? your the hard drive for that matter.

Depends on what you run, as matt_h1 mentioned.

Keep in mind that the paging file is on the drive, so if you mostly run CPU intensive tasks AND rarely swap, the 4404 would perform better in this situation. Personally though, I think the hard drive is one of the biggest bottlenecks in a system (even for general use), so I would gladly sacrifice 200 MHz of CPU power in exchange for a faster drive (although I would upgrade the RAM in the 4402 to at least 1GB).

Also, I'm not sure if you can upgrade the CPU on the 4402, but the RAM and the hard drive are easily accessible.
