Does anyone else have horror stories to tell about ACER's repairs?...

I bought the brand new $300 Aspire at Wal-Mart. It ran wonderfully, until I realized two of the three USB ports were completely dead. Having a basic 90 day warranty, I contacted Tech Support and they decided to replace the motherboard.

I had to pay to ship and insure it. They repair it and send it back. It comes back with a counterfeit copy of Windows 7 Basic (Fails verification/WGA) and the keyboard was warped/damaged from whomever repaired it.

I contacted them again about this. After using the ALT+F10 strategy, it still failed verification. I had to send it in again. Originally, I wasn't going to worry about the keyboard. I could just buy another one myself and replace it. However, since I now had to send it in again, I complained about the keyboard and asked for a replacement.

So now, I've received the email notification that my system has left the factory. I'm nervous about what condition it'll be received in and if it was even repaired. I could just imagine doing the ALT+F10 procedure again (for privacy/verification purposes) and it still has a counterfeit copy of Windows 7 Basic and a damaged keyboard. Not to mention the fact that I've spent $360 for a netbook and shipping/insuring for what has basically become a refurbished netbook. :(

This is why I haven't sent my 1410 in yet for its slight video flicker issue.. I'm worried I'll get it back in worse condition than when I sent it.

My friend sent in her Acer because the LCD died. Then she had to send it back because the SSD disconnected. She could have fixed the hard drive herself (she believed the adapter just fell off) but Acer told her not to do it or she would void her warranty.

She's had no issues so far! But her windows7 is not genuine so everytime she starts the computer, it prompts her to verify.

What the hell is this?!! :O

I have never heard of such dodgy repairs through OFFICCIAL channels? It must be a united states thing?

How can two people out of a handfull of posts on this thread get back windows thats now not genuine? Are the repair centre employees stealing genuine keys for their own use or selling them? Report this, to acer and if that fails whatever government body i senforcing consumer goods laws! Dont just make sad faces and cry about it. You guys have 60 minutes or something to report it to that too.

Get back broken laptops? Demand new ones! They can send you a referb but it must be in full working order, and it cannot be in worse condition than yours! And they hould NOT be installing 7 basic!

And I have no idea what kind of warranty you guys haveif it my laptop breaks and its the products fault, I dont pay for shipping. Heck if its within a month of purchase you go back to were you bought it and ask for a new one, then the company that sold you the defective goods deals with the manufacturer that sold them defecive goods.

    Got it back this evening.

Thankfully it's in the same condition as it was before, except this time Windows 7 Basic is genuine.

According to the paper work, the OS was re-loaded and verified. So much so, that now when I do the ALT + F10 recovery, it's already verified without me even logging onto the net to get it verified.

Unfortunately, the keyboard is still less than perfect. It's nothing big, just a few dents here and there that an average user wouldn't notice. But I do, and that bugs me.

I think the reason why the system came back as non-genuine is because the OS on the hard disk was registered to a system with a different motherboard. When I tried to verify it with the new motherboard, it was like it was a whole new PC using the same code as the previous one. Therefore, it'd fail verification.

Well, if there are people complaining about windows not being genuine, contact M$. I'm sure that they will love to hear about Acer service centers sending laptops with non-genuine versions of windows. Here's the link http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/reporting/default.aspx.
