Hi, could anyone with an acer 5920 please give me the name your network adaptor (ethernet) comes up as in your device manager.

Mine won't show up, when I download the drivers from acer it encounters an error, just need the name it comes up as in device manager, cheers.

When I reloaded my 5315 with a clean install, I had problems with that driver as well. I kept trying to load the Broadcom driver but it wouldn't take. It turned out that the Broadcom driver loaded with the OS and the driver that wasn't loaded was the wireless adaptor. So, just out of curiousity, which one are you trying to load? LAN or WLAN?

I don't have 5920 but it should be a broadcom card. Try the drivers from the broadcom site.

    Drivers won't load gives a code 31,

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.

When i then uninstall the device in device manager it won't then recognise it when i scan for hardware changes, so it's basically saying i don't have a LAN card.

Uninstall the old drivers. Restart. Click "Cancel" when Windows prompt you to install new hardware. Then just update the ethernet driver using the broadcom drivers.
    OR
Uninstall the old drivers. DO NOT RESTART. Update using the Broadcom drivers.

Avoid any scanning for new hardware or automatic installation.

Doesn't work, windows won't pick up any new hardware, can't manually install anything, it's like there's nothing there. When i plug a cable into it the green light comes on, my router picks it up but windows fails to recognise anything there????

This is really odd..You have the chipset driver installed?

You may try to download Everst Home Edition and see if it'll be able to "see" your ethernet card..

    Later mate.

I hate to say it but I hope your laptop is still under warranty...this doesn't sound good at all.

Just an update. still not managed to get it to work.

I've opened the laptop up, took it apart to gain full access to the LAN socket area, but doesn't seen like there is any physical visable damage of any sort. Put it all back together then the computer picked it up, installed the drivers, then hung while trying to enable the device, then it went again. So i think it is probably a motherboard issue, the lights come on when the cable is plugged in, then the orange light flickers as if it is working, but not picked up by the computer. Also dual booted xp to see if it was a vista problem, but no success.
