    Hello,

I have just bought a new Acer laptop from best buy and wanted to know two things:

    1) What pre-installed software do you suggest I remove (assuming I stay with Vista)

    2) How do I remove that particular software completely?

    Thanks!

    Rob

    0) Before you do anything, burn your recovery discs using Acer eRecovery. And after that, the Drivers & Utilities disc if you have that option - that way, you don't have to get back on the internet to redownload anything you had.

    1) It depends - a lot of Acer's Empowering Suite are user-friendly front-ends for other tools, but with automatic adjustments. For example, ePower is just a front-end for Vista's own power management, but ePower can actually change your power plan automatically depending on whether or not you're on AC power or battery. I wouldn't be able to recommend keeping or deleting any one particular tool without knowing how computer-savvy you are and what Empowering software you have.

    2) Removing Empowering software is as simple as going to Control Panel, then Programs and Features, then selecting the tool and hitting Uninstall. Be careful, though - uninstalling the Empowering Framework deletes EVERY tool, so keep that if you're just looking to remove one or a few.

As TehSuigi says really. If your going to uninstall some stuff though, theres a handy program called revo uninstaller, uninstalls your programs and gets rid of stuff left over from the program.

When i got my acer i got rid of most of the software that came with the laptop. Office trial, anti-virus trial as there are free better ones out there (i use avira), the games trials are pretty naff so i got rid of those, the empowering software as most of the stuff can be done in windows. (If you do get rid of these, make sure you do backup disks first!!!).

Oh yeah, forgot about the Office and anti-virus trials. AVG's a good free viral protection suite, last I checked.
The games trials, eSobi, and Orion I also ditched rather quickly.
