Few days ago i bought my new Acer 5920G with the following specs:

    C2D T9300 @2.5GHz
    4GB DDR2-RAM
    Geforce 9500M GS 512MB DDR2-RAM
    250GB 5400rpm HDD
    2+1speakers
    6-cell battery

Unfortunately in only came with A/B/G W-Lan and no Bluetooth. Also on the store website in said that it should come with HD-DVD/DVD-RW combo but mine came with an LG DVD-RW only. I don’t consider this a problem since HD-DVD is dead anyway. For now I can say that the build quality is rather good, but the keyboard has little flex in the middle. Sound is excellent and the battery performance also with up to 2:10-20 with 30% brightness, CPU on Low and W-Lan on, surfing the net and listening to some music. My only concern is the temperature with the CPU and GPU temperatures around 60-65C when idle on high performance. Is this normal?

Now I have few questions. First of all the laptop came with Vista 32bit, is it worth it to install Vista 64bit since I have 4GB of ram. Also gaming wise would you recommend installing XP 32bit or 64bit? Are drivers for XP 64bit available?

Furthermore I won’t ask for the best drivers for the VGA since I realize is a matter of trial and error. I assume since the core is the same with 8600GT, so will the driver performance. Nevertheless, searching through the forum few weeks ago I noticed some people used a monitoring tool for the CPU temperatures and if I remember well even over/underclocking but I can’t remember the name. Could you recommend some software of this kind aside from Everest? Also is it possible to lock the CPU at the highest frequency, when on AC for example?

Also what else would you recommend installing, software or driver vise?

Thank you for your help and patience for reading this long post :)

Nice laptop. I got 5920g but the older version with 8600m gt 512 but I guess I can help you out. For more detail about the software and how to use it, you can do a search on the forum

First to lower the CPU idle temp. I use Rightmark CPU clock utility to undervolt my CPU when idle. This makes it cooler running at the same speed. Also makes the battery life longer if not connected to AC. This utility also monitors your cpu temp on your tray icon. My cpu T7500 is around 39C idle

To lower the graphics card idle temp, I used the rivatunner and lower my 2D clock. I have set it to lowest possible and found no problem running vista aero. If your cooling is good, you can also overclock increase your 3D clock for better performance in gaming. I dont overclock and my gpu is around 88-92C during gaming. This utility also monitors temp of your gpu. My gpu is around 55C idle.

With your 4gb ram, I would say to stick with your 32bit vista and be happy. 64bit is still not its prime moment yet so just wait a couple more years for less problem.

Go to xg driver to download the latest mobile graphic driver. After that go to nvidia control pannel and increase the digital vibrance. I use 30% and this does make the screen looked better.

Keep your windows updated, and uninstall all acer softwares. Other software I use are tuneup utilities and ccleaner. Both will clean junk and optimize your computer. I use perfectdisk to defrag.

For Rightmark setting, use performance on demand mode and adjust the voltage. Do a search for the thread in this forum for topic called gpu overclocking and cpu undervolting. I followed the thread step by step with good results.

Also, go download synaptics modded driver from someone called disco anima. You get the some additional features to play with on your touchpad.
