    http://www.notebookjournal.de/tests/237

Another one (in German)- but the final mark SEHR GUT is obvious- VERY GOOD.
Additional information in Datenblatt and Testwerte.
Take a look as there is info in heat, HDD performance, some 3D tests, WiFi test etc.

A local shop in the Netherlands told me they should get theirs within 2 weeks, hopefully end of next week.

I'm really in doubt.... either get this Acer here or try to pick up a G1S in the US next month......

    Yet another one.

    http://notebook.cz/__/,clanky,recen...920,index.html&vid=O4097E23872&tid=1182360542

In Czech with a note that it was a pre-production unit even though the test was published on June 14th.

Still some numbers and full report from HWINFO32 included.
You gotta be cautious with this report as it states that GPU runs at 513MHz (and it clearly does not) and does not contain info on Broadcom LAN adapter (probably to hide MAC address = producer)

EDIT: The GPU actually runs @513MHz!!! :) Notebook is made by Quanta Computers.

I just talked to somebody at a local shop who had a training with the 5920G this monday and was pretty impressed with the machine. He told me they should get it instock coming thursday, so I hope to have some first hand experience then.

Yay. The PC Pro review is in. I talked to The Acer Guy and he says that they are pouring into Europe at the moment yet them seem to be penetrating from East to West pretty slowly. Italy have got them in stock, and Im getting so impatient!

I don't know i've been seeing mixed reviews on it. I really like the look of it, the features, and the price but it seems to be lacking with a few dumb port placement & build quality issues.

Looks like you read the Cnet review - lol. They've set there rating score for the 5920 on entirly the design which is poor reviewing.

However, I have to agree that the colour of the interior will be someones dream and others disgust. I'm still unsure about the interior - need some real life photos to show the exact colour of it.

Now I know you've been waiting for me to submit another review in a language you don't understand. ;)

    So there is is: http://www.ferra.ru/online/mobilis/s27047/page-1/
    In Russian :)

What's important- the notebook uses an MXM module, so there is a chance for upgrade. What's more the GPU works @513MHz (instead of default 475MHz). It's probably to "regain" some fps lost due to used DDR2 (Hynix in this case)

There are already two revisions of 8600M GT (G84-600) A1 and A2. Both are clocked @513MHz though. The other report with rev A1 can be found on notebook.cz report I submitted earlier (Czech review was conducted on pre-production unit).

Another news from German retailer is that there is a 512MB version of 8600M GT, yet still with DDR2 RAM. It also features toshiba 200GB HDD (4200rpm though). The 512MB version was easy enough to predict as on ACER website you can find "nVidia 8600M GT up to 512MB DDR2". In germany it's 1300€ including VAT.

Google translate does a good job on translating the German review you posted, yet Czech is not yet a language in their database. I was pretty bummed when I couldn't read it. Even the free online traslators do not cover Czech. I don't feel like paying for a translation either.

Luckily Google has just released a BETA for translating Russian. Yeah.

Thanks, I'll add this to the list.

*I like the bit about the excellent battery life. It beat all the other comparison laptops hands-down.

i am really thinking about sending back my G1s and going for the Acer. I wanna use a 22" TFT, so the better screen ist not that important for me. Apart from that the Acer is quite a bite slower at 3DMark, but real-world-testing only showed a slightly better performance.

i am VERY unsure about what to do :-(

from what I have found out, G1 shure is better and quite significantly faster than 5920, but Acer is already at the limit of my budget, plus it looks like a nice thing to have, instead of geeky "gamer" G1. G1 is better, if you can afford it, it is available and you like it's design and screen resolution.

anyway, if you have G1 it is ridiculous to downgrade to 5920.

I would consider the G1 if my budget constraints were more relaxed, but they aren't and the Acer is at the comfortable end of my student budget. That said the Gemstone looks a lot nicer. The G1, regardless of what people say has the geek factor. As soon as those lights flash in public, you've stereotyped yourself for life!

On the Acer, the screen is pretty much where the Asus G1 comfortable leads. I find 1280x1024 on my 17" monitor useable, thus 1280x800 on a 15" should be no problem.

Acer have very clearly positioned themselves to become the market leaders in the foreseeable future with these new gemstones.

The consumer will begin to see they can have style (however debatable that topic is) and power to match, unlike the HP's with a lot of style, but no substance.

    Hi everybody.

Darkspark88 asked me to find out the first UK retailers to stock the Aspire 5920. Today I got an email back from Acer UK saying that the first places to sell the Aspire 5920 in the UK will be:

    www.laptopsdirect.co.uk
    www.shopacer.co.uk

From what I hear, both sites already list them as available. Hope this helps.

You probably know this by now, but Shop Acer are taking "Pre-Orders", so officially, Laptops Direct (Acer Notebooks), are the only place in the UK that actually have stock for sale.

    Mine arrives Monday!! :D

In america, people seems to buying the 5920G while here, Laptops Direct only sell the 5920WSMi. Are they both the same?

Just popping by with my $0.02:

I posted this on the blog but there are probably more readers here. ;-)

The “WSMi” and "WLMi" model extension was used for models prior to the introduction of the Gemstone (new Aspire) and ProFile (new TravelMate) series.

In fact, looking at any of the local Acer sites where the 5920 is currently sold, the 5920 models are only referred to as AS5920G and that is the correct name.

In short, the dealers have got it wrong and Acer UK has contacted them to change it. Wonder how long it'll take to change?

    i was just about to buy myself an Acer Aspire 5920G-602G25Mi - Core 2 Duo T7500 / 2.2 GHz - RAM 2 GB - HDD 250 GB - GF

8600M GS - Vista Home Premium for 600 euros (brand new from a shop) which i thought is an excellent price for this kind of

hardware. Before i invest my 600 euros i did a mini research on the net trying to found any known faults or problems of

this specific unit. Then i bumbed on the NVIDIA scandal. I can only describe it as a scandal because the little info the

company has outed can be only scandalous. When you know that you have a gpu that is bound to fail it is like a terminal

disease. You can try but at the end death is inevitable. Now if this "death" is going to be inside or outside the warranty

period that is irreleavant. Things like that should be treated faulty or not with the same measure RECALL!!! Of course the

only reason they are not doing that is that it doesnt have to do with the security of people (like a fuel hose in a car)

but it can harm only financially. And that makes me furious.. Should there be explosion of the gpus due to thermal increase

to see some action. Btw no i am waiting to see what nvidia will have to say...i expect a cover up and i am in search of a

    notebook using ATI gpu.
