Hey there... seems like a pretty in-the-know-discussion-forum on a variety of topics.

Where to start, Where to start,

When purchased about a week ago (straight from factory) what happened initially was the cd-rom for this model (Acer Aspire M5620 DESKTOP) would not open, okay I thought it obviously needs to be sent back to the company, but while I was on checking out Windows Vista (I'm a bit New to Vista as well, but didn't really think it was all that much radically different than XP) and hooking up the internet, thinking of a time convenient for me to send this thing back (as the cd-rom appeared to not even be operable haha.. sloppy sloppy I must say.), well.. I thought I'd at least see how Windows Vista and Dial-Up internet meet up and shake hands and well.. connect...so I had about a sunday night to kind of go through things and try and atleast familiarize myself so that when I get a brand new hastle free (Acer Aspire M5620 DESKTOP) I can just save some time and immediately get this thing up and running. seems logical... but wait a MINUTE here..

As i was "connecting" an all to normal phone line from an all to normal household jack to the ONLY jack on the back of this computer for any kind of phone-line seems to be a NETWORK jack of some kind (not sure if this jack can also be used for Dial Up? NEED AN ANSWER HERE..PLEASE RESPOND.), and also when the phone-line is plugged in from the household jack to the aspire jack my phone line is busy... and i've plugged in a phone to that jack and dialed the number it uses to connect and tested that it dials and connects to the remote computer a good couple times. yet still the phone line still becomes in use or busy when I hook the phone line back into the Acer again. And I connected the Aspire into another room with a phone jack and the phone line is still busy no matter what. AND i've unplugged phones etc., and troubleshooted that way. Oh well this could be another Acer slop up...

Okay that was kind of a farce lmao in hindsight cuz now its been a week gone by already I got the same model AGAIN brand new hooked in (the cd-rom works..perfect!)

And that brings us up to date and I Still have the whole phone line FIASCO! not really suprised.

SO I recently have called my ISP (TWICE) and got them to check the lines/account status and everything is running fine after all I'm connected to my other desktop here in another room... Of all things They suggested to subscribe to Wi-Max and kind of ran me around the whole subject of even getting Dial-Up working (so they gave me a nice 1-866-number to set up a Wi-Max account...okay I initially thought amazing!!!! Why subscribe to crappy dial-up when they now have Wi-Max available..didn't even know about Wi-Max coming closer and closer but it turns out Wi-Max isn't that close cuz it's NOT available in my area,)...ughh.

so back to the Dial-Up issue...cuz neither the phone company nor the Acer phone people have suggested anything out of the ordinary...

Twice the phone company ran me through setting up a connection, which won't work if the line is obviously busy when plugged into the Acer and now I'm not really all that sure if there is a dial-up modem on the Acer Aspire M5620..but hey you never know...I guess, right?..

now if i have a modem I need a link for the correct Aspire M5620 DEFAULT (Dial-Up) modem driver cuz it came with NO disks to install or any such thing...OR I in fact I need a Dial Up modem after all..because I have checked into detecting a modem (I'm not sure here which one it is basically because theres 9 models and the Windows Vista online support section pretty much says pick one.)

If you know which model it is afterall and can help me.. I need you to select the modem from the list. to get there it goes as follows:

clicking under Start>Control Panel>Phone and Modem Options.. under the Modems tab by clicking "Add" and then Permission to continue as well pops up and you'd click continue..and then it brings up Add Hardware Wizard - subheading: Install New Modem...then at the bottom of this window there is the option don't detect a modem I will Select it from a list (Checkbox is checked) > Click Next and the list of (DEFAULT) modems for the Acer Aspire M5620 PC Desktop goes as follows under the MODELS listings:

    -Communications cable between two computers
    -Parallel cable between two computers
    -Standard 300 bps modem
    -Standard 1200 bps modem
    -Standard 2400 bps modem
    -Standard 9600 bps modem
    -Standard 14400 bps modem
    -Standard 19200 bps modem
    -Standard 33600 bps modem
    -Standard 56000 bps modem
    -Standard PCMCIA Card Modem

...Oh and I understand theres a command you can type in... ATXO or something (help me out with doing this too) for your modem so that it can free up the line and you can keep your phone line plugged into your computer without the phone line being in use...maybe thats the solution, or its something to do with the KPPP settings and adjusting..I have no idea, what other alternatives are there.. other than the fact it simply needs a proper Dial-Up modem installed..

but I really don't know why the company would make a computer with Dial-Up options and not have a Dial-Up modem put in it internally. Seems kinda stupid.. And why the modem internally is automatically busy when I connect a normal run of the mill phone line. cuz theres no other line issues, no second phone line, and no one is on the line, and a storm has not hit or anything lol.

So ya any alternative explanations /options or ideas/ advice toward the phone-line and modem situation would be greatly appreciated at your earliest convenience.
