Really.....
Have you ever had a MSI Ghost? The thing can get really hot with a GTX 860M as it is. I find it hard to believe they managed to get the temps lower or equal to the old temps with the new cards! To top that off I would never buy another MSI product or believe anything they claim after the horrific experience I had with MSI. Trying to get my Touch-pad issue of it stopping working when the unit gets really hot, WiFi stability and speed issues, and headphone jack not working properly fixed! This is why I'm against ever trying to work something like a new type of graphics card into an old model! Acer should not try to put a GTX 900 series in the current Nitro's. If they want to sell a unit with a GTX 900 series. They should design a new model. Because, Lets face it no mater how much those engineers are paid or how smart they are. Its hard to integrate something into an old design and in most cases leads to more/new problems. So, yes it may be the best financial decision in the short term to put a GTX 900 series in the current Nitro's designs but if they do that they will just end up losing customers in the long term like MSI and Lenovo is for trying to do just that and failing!

You don't have to believe the numbers reviewers and GenTech/XoticPC are putting up. The 860M GS60 maxed out 90 Celsius for the GPU. The 970M GS60 maxes out at 75 Celsius for the GPU. There's no other way for me to support my statement with evidence. -
-
The msi gs60 would've gotten lower temps coz you're comparing
The 870m and the 970m... The 870m is Kepler and it runs way hotter.. While the 970m is Maxwell... Runs cooler.. I don't know how much cooler... But it should run cooler...
Now.. Acer putting a 960m most likely won't reduce temps coz the 860m is already Maxwell....
http://www.gaminglaptopsjunky.com/a...complete-cheaper-ultraportable-gaming-laptop/
And the acer aspire v15 already touches 96C on cpu and 86C on gpu while gaming ... Any hotter and you risk throttling while gaming... Unless they make changes.. Even if it doesn't.... Temps are in no way going to get lower than they already are....
Atleast that's my take on it.. -
860M in Nitro is Maxwell version, 960M will be the same card with a bit higher clock speed (which you can get with overclocking, exact same thing) so there is no point in waiting for 960M and not buying this.
GS60 sound like jet engine and its chasis is burning hot. -
i had the y50 (couple of weeks) and g60 for a weekend)
gs60 is really nice imho, the chassis is slim, light weight...looks highend. but the fan really likes to spool up, especially when using the thing on your lap, on a table it was a bit better, but this is the problem with all gaming laptops/notebooks where hardware is crammed into a slim package...so the fan was loud and i didnt like that which was my biggest beef with it
y50, screen was crappy, would have to get the UHD screen which is very nice, but glossy...i hate glossy, so its either crappy screen or glossy....and the 860 is too weak for a uhd screen, i sent it back and ordered the acer
15.6 nitro has an ok screen , not the best but it competes with the y50, which it beats ...the heat/fan speeds, it seems like the nitro try's to keep thing cool by throtling, rather than being noisy....it will boost in the beginning of games and demanding apps, but once temps hit about 90-95 it starts to throttle down, until temps are about 80 on cpu and 85 on gpu, where they stabilize.keyb is on par with the y50 and gs60, i liked the touchpad better on the y50 though...i was against getting an acer in the beginning, i have helped friends and family with their acers in the yearly 2000, and back then they where very much a discount brand, at the NB's which my family had...on this though its way better, the screen does flex a bit , but the distortion is only visible while moving the screen, and only in dark scenes....my biggest let down is that this notebook is on the larger end of the spektrum when it comes to size for a 15.6...but if you want gaming capeability..well the heat has to go somewhere, and cooling takes up space
yes i made a mistake...in an earlier post...its cm not mm
is there a program that can control the fans, i would like to see the temps if fans really get to move some air...im typing this with the laptop in my lap, and once in a while it will spin the fans up for about 1 minute and then go completely silent...temps are just under 50C on the cpu, and 44 on the gpu....just typing o nthis forum with browser in full screen -
Guys,
what about BIOS in these new Nitro models, is VT-x disabled and locked or it can be enabled.
I was looking for model v3-772g and almost bought it last week when i spoted one post about problems with dissabled virtualization.
Almost all acer notebooks have similar BIOS with locked advanced features so can anyone who acctualy have Nitro take some photos so we can see if people in Acer are coming smarter of they are gonna lose one more customer due to same mistakes. -
and I can't believe NV will release a 960M with a even more cut down GM204 - just because it wouldn't be cost effective. maybe for a 965M, but 960M is IMHO much mire likely a OC-version of the 860M. especially considering how well the 860M does OC. -
i dont have any sources on what i wrote about 860m - 960m, but that has happened almost always in the past.
virtualization is enabled by default (there is no switch in BIOS), that was crucial for me as i use my Nitro as a portable virtul VMware/Hyper-V lab which works exceptinally well with i7, 16GB RAM and 1TB Samsung EVO SSD.
i would be happier if it had 4 RAM slots so i can put 32GB RAM though.. -
Just got mine, as per your font issue: [Fix] Bold, Blurry or Hard to Read Font Problem in Windows 8.1 - AskVG
-
If it is enabled by default that is great, cause VMWARE Workstation is not working on other models of acers but HYPER V can still be used on that same machines.
People have confirmed that for Acer V3-772g and Windows 8.
Which Wmware products are you using on your Nitro? -
i think that both of them require the same thing, do you have any sources that hyper-v works, but VMware doesnt?
i am using Workstation 10 at the moment.
if this is the output of systeminfo command in cmd then it all works:
VM Monitor Mode Extensions: Yes
Virtualization Enabled In Firmware: Yes
Second Level Address Translation: Yes
Data Execution Prevention Available: Yes -
About your question i found it in some review but you are probably right, both requires same thing so they probably dont know what they are talking about or they didnt check it out.
Supported is not same as working

What's are the major differences between the 15" $1199 model offered by Acer and the $1299 model offered by Newegg besides the 12GB vs 16GB of ram?
-
-
ellalan likes this.
-
Anyone know if any other 15" models are going to be released anytime soon? I'd really prefer an 8GB RAM model instead of the 16GB and pay less money..

Acer Aspire VN7-591G-75NJ Notebook | Acer Store
It says 1920x1080. -
Hi,
what is the meaning off XXXX in model number. Do they have some meaning (IPS screen, not IPS....)? Then I see there a lot of variations....

thanks...that trick does the job
when i play farcry3 i use caps lock as "run" key, but every time i use it far cry 3 jumps out of full screen, and caps lock symbol is overlayed on the screen....i dont want or need a notification or symbol to be shown when i press caps.... -

The 15,6'' variant has been reviewed by notebookcheck! (Acer Aspire V 15 Nitro VN7-591G-77A9)
Test Acer Aspire V 15 Nitro (VN7-591G-77A9) Notebook - Notebookcheck.com Tests -
Moreover, the screen measurements contradict this review. Most surprising of all, NotebookCheck got 100 lux higher on brightness, but way worse color coverage and black level. Contrast and DeltaE are similar. The model numbers of the displays are the same, but maybe we are dealing with different variants of the same display due to being in different countries. -
heard a few cons about this laptop
cpu throttling
cracking sound at the hinges
speaker positioning sucks
wifi disconnects
any comments? how does this compare to the g551 -
-
plus, CPU-thotteling seemingly does only happen under full load (Prime95+Furmark simultaneously). those game benches at least do not support the idea of thotteling ingame or NBC didn't write about that - which is rather unlikely.
add to this the point, that we do not know of any problems the G551 will perhaps have and I would be rather inclined to throw my money at Acer now than at Asus someday in the future.
uh and one more thing: the G551 lacks the possibility to add a SSD next to the HDD. only one storage bay is great downside in my book. -
Acer V15 Nitro Black Edition (VN7-591G) Review
good old google search
also i read about a person complaining in germany how 1 wall was enough to cause wifi issues -
had it for 10 days now, been playing, surfing....streaming
biggest con is the touchpad, which has some difficulty in registering finger strokes.....and if you try to right click something the pointer tends to move, there by clicking the wrong thing.
throtlilng...it does happen when you really push the machine, but it is seldom in real life....ran far cry 3 for 2 hours and cpu stayed above the rated 2.5ghz....most of the time it was a 2.7, and the first half hour 2.8-2.9, when launching a program or game the cpu happily hit 3.2 ghz...gets hot and then backs down to under 3ghz....but thats what it supposed to do...boost start of programs by raising speed, and then back down when program is done with the initial load.
temps...it does get hot, well 95c on cpu and 85c on gpu....sometimes i wish i could set the fan at 100% before starting the game....the way the fan is now it waits for temps to rise quite high before it starts to spin up, once it realizes that temps stays up, its starts to back down the boost, until its around 80-85c......far cry3 after 2 hours had the cpu at around 85c, and gpu 84c, pretty reasonable for such a thin machine...fans where at the loudest, which isnt very loud, so i wonder if its running at full speed or is prioritizing low noise instead of low temps.
some will find the screen a con...but compared to other machine in same class i find it avarage
i have been on wifi (android hotspot) and noticed no problems
pro's
theres a lot more pro's than cons, and all the notebooks suffer from one thing or another...lenovo gave their y50 a crappy screen, msi sounds like a jet readying for take off, and is more expensive than the nitro and y50.....if you want mobile gamer and dont care about fan noise, then pick the msi...if your not critical about screen, and is ok with a hybrid disk, then y50 is cheaper....nitro to ME is a nice balance, low noise yet able to run things like far cry 3 -
"It seems to me that running Prime95 and Furmark alltogether resulted time after time in the WiFi disconnecting. It didnt occured while gaming, though"
Well it seems fairly clear that this issue wont occur during normal usage or playing games because those applications push the computer performance way past any current game from what I understand. -
-
Can someone please tell me the difference between those notebooks? Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-591G-75M1 / 790C / 77A9 .
They are both same price and I would also like to know if this is a Maxwell or a Kepler chip.

Is there a difference between Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-591G ( 75M1 / 790C / 77A9 )?
-
I would advise against buying a notebook that throttles under test conditions. People tend to convince themselves that it's an artificial test and under normal conditions that wouldn't have happened.
This is not the case however - exhibit A - this review shows that CPU and GPU temperatures in Crysis 3 are higher than under Furmark+ Prime95 test (for CPU by 5*C and for GPU by 2*C). And there goes the theory that games never push notebooks as far as synthetic tests - they do and more modern games will put more load on your computer than current ones do.
Second issue - you have to be aware that cooling agent is air therefore if ambient temperature would be 18*C you'd end up with cooler CPU than if it was 25*C (not exactly linear but pretty close). So consider the fact that it is October and unless you live in an apartment with climate control your ambient temperature in - let's say - July would be higher than it is by at least few *C which would mean (almost linear) increase of the CPU and GPU temperature.
And last but not least - direct quote from notebookcheck review:
The other review also states
So far you have two reviews both confirming that thermal throttling occurred. Do not convince you that it's going to be fine in spite of that.
EDIT: This post is about 15" version of the notebook. -
Would you recommend buying this even though there's a chance that a 960m night come out soon.. The performance difference between 970m and 860m is 100%... Even if a 960m comes in at half that performance.. There's 50% difference...
-
Will they not be the same cards but clocked ?
-
On the question concerning the 960M: I don't expect them before spring 15. There are virtually no information available right now. This is VERY unlikely, if the chip is released anytime soon. Just remember GM204.
So I see no point in waiting, if you want a laptop NOW. -
-
Serious cooling issues arise from deficiencies in design of a cooling system (not enough heatpipes and/or radiator that is too small and/or low rpm fan etc).
Anyway - regardless of if it could or couldn't help, it's probably not a good idea to buy something that has issues to begin with.
That said notice that 17" Nitro had no cooling issues at all so my complaints are only about 15" version.
-
Can you explain how throttling affects regular performance? Is it just temperature-wise, like it gets too hot? Or will programs/games start stuttering and become unresponsive? Will the laptop just shut off?
I ask because this honestly seems like the best laptop for the price at this time, and if throttling isn't some huge gamebreaker I'll probably go with the 15". -
When thermal throttling occurs CPU clock is severely reduced (notebookcheck says it stays at 800MHz most of the time) as a result performance is reduced and games start to lag. After a while at this lower clock it cools down to the point where the frequency goes up again but this process will repeat. For gamers it makes if pretty unplayable (assuming thermal throttling even occurs in a given game)
It is possible that the notebook will switch off because of high temperature - it's an inbuilt safety mechanism of the CPU - but that is extremely unlikely. That would only occur if fan stopped working or for some reason there was no contact between the CPU and a radiator (I very seen that dislocated after a user dropped the notebook). -
And wich should I buy : 75M1, 790C or 77A9?
-
The 17 inch model has a MUCH better cooling solution.
-
Ah ok, so I'm buying the 17 inch then.
-
i have 15" and i dont have any problems, very happy with it.
i dont care if it throttles under 110% load after half an hour or so as my usage wont ever be like that.
and i dont care if the chip is hot under heavy load if the laptop is cold, its made to be hot. if it wasnt it would shut down.
