No. I also googled for Acer Color Engine and didn't found any info about it. (Sorry, I mistakenly called it "Color Management" in previous post.)

Here is the archive with Acer Color Engine files from my VN7:
    https://mega.nz/#!yZxzzSIQ!36IEp8sHfYq6nbQ1iPTgCinpcVMCtOtYnmAnpELTtGM
I hope it will help you, however I'm not sure this app will work without proper installation.

P.S. This app has no any controls or window, it just tunes the color curves once launched. Result can be visible in the Intel HD panel:

Sir, I can't thank you enough for this thorough explanation! I finally got them on my laptop!

I didn't find those in my Acer Quick acces that came on DVD, so I installed it from acer main website... but they were still not there. I was almost ready to accept that my VN7 nitro black does not have these features as it came with linux, but I decide to try download the programs by selecting my exact pc version in their Support section of the web. And what do you know. Acer Quick Access 1.01.3018 15.1 MB 2015/01/15 for VN7-791g had both CoolBoost an DustDefender in it. Dust defender works for sure.

Anyway, I am really happy now that I got everything that was promised and advertised.

After the nightmare that I went through with 15' nitro black version (Overheat->No coolboost->Throttling) I can only recommend 17' version for serious gaming needs.

If you have launched Acer Color Engine V1.01.3001.exe after extracting my archive but nothing changed at the Intel panel, then, obviously, it is useless. Maybe it requires some additional registry keys etc. Only Acer knows that.

    @ALL
Please can you tell what max resolution/FPS is available via HDMI? Acer's support told that HDMI version is 1.4a but max resolution is 1920*1080. This sounds strange because HDMI 1.4a theoretically supports 3840*2160 @30Hz. But how it is in practice? If you have 4K TV or monitor, can you test HDMI connection please?

UPD: Nitro's HDMI definitely supports at least 2560*1440 @60Hz, I just read this on another forum. The question about 4K remains open.

Thanks for sharing your experience but I must say that you make me laugh with this :). I don't know do we have the same model because on my V17 the edges aren't sharp at all. And they are covered with something like rubber or soft plastic. I'm using this laptop for programming which implies that I'm typing all the time and I don't have any problem.

    Thanks

Ok guys I faced another problem. When Im switching to High Performance power plan and battery is connected, my Wi-Fi doesnt work. I can't connect to the network. When I use Balanced power mode everything connects just fine.

I thought it was CPU cores and heat. So I made a test:

On Balanced settings I set wireless to max performance and CPU minimum state to 100%. Ran prime92 but connection was still fine. Set max screen brightness to no avail.

Any idea what might be so wrong in high performance plan?

In case anyone's interested, I got my hands on the Broadwell update of the Aspire VN7-571G and gathered some impressions over here: Acer Aspire V 15 Nitro VN7-571G review with Broadwell hardware

The final release models will ship with Nvidia GTX 950M graphics, sometimes in late February - early March. I don't have exact details on prices, but from what I know so far the Broadwell 571G will match the Haswell 591G price wise, which doesn't sound right to me. I'm not sure how many will want to sacrifice performance for increased battery life and an optical drive.

Well, I have the V17 Nitro and tried to connect it to my 2560x1440 external monitor through an hdmi to dvi cable (cause monitor only features dvi connection). I never managed to get any display, following several procedures found on forums and trying low refresh rates. Laptop finds new display linked but unable to get it working.
I got "The user defined resolution excesses the maximum bandwith" at any attempt.

Do you use a dual link DVI cable? See the attached file. 21_1240864686.jpg
IF you have a single link cable than you can't get above 1900x1200.

well, if they really start from 800€, this is rather expensive. the VN7-571G with i54210U and GTX50M start right now at 729€, whichs sounds reasonable. plus, you can order new versions with Broadwell i5-5200U at the same price, too. the ULV-i7 is nonsense anyway. if you need the CPU-power, either get the 591G with i5-4210H oder the i7-4710H. only downside of the 591G would be the missing optical drive.

I used a hdmi to dvi high speed 24+1 cable.
If someone manage to connect the V17 to a dvi 2560x1440 monitor that would be great.

nitro can produce 2560x1440 over hdmi, but some monitors display only 1080p over hdmi. check your monitor specifications.

thanks for that acer color utility and registry key!

    i have a few questions:
i have made a clean win 8 install and now my fn buttons sometimes work right away (rarely), sometimes after a few minutes after booting. anyone know what to do?
how can i update bios, bios update utility from acer gives me unsupported machine error?
do you have full wifi bars all the time? i have changed my wifi card to intel 7260 and with that one and with stock one i always have full bars, but speed decreases with distance. why dont bars decrease?

    thanks

Any thoughts on how the lid can be disassembled? There are no screws, the lid seems to be assembled with latches, but maybe its parts simply glued together, so I'm afraid to try disassembling it.

My screen has some backlight bleeding near the corners (visible only on black background with high backlit level), and I hope that accurate reassembling of the lid (maybe loosening the internal screws that hold the LCD panel) could reduce this bleeding.

When i install them, everything goes well and it says device updated , BUT my touchpad still are HID-complaint mouse in device manager, and i have no scrolling or anything, can't find any utility installed for touchpad as well.. And when i try update drivers manually trough device manager, i get error "the folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver" after choosing .inf file. HELP?

Mine is stock like it came from the factory and still says HID-complaint mouse, for both that and the usb/wireless mouse I have installed.

But then scrolling with touchpad would not even work? Like mine. Or i suppose it can say HID-complaint mouse even if it has right drivers, but see, in my case, as far as i understand, i just have kind of "default" windows drivers installed automatically, and can't update with the right acer's drivers. When i hit driver details, i believe it says year of driver is 2006 and driver provider is Microsoft. And when i try update driver manually it ask me to provide .inf file from the driver and the says that's wrong driver, even though i've get this from Acer website or even original drivers cd i've got with laptop.
Some news: Editing .inf file and doing some other crazy stuff, i've managed to install drivers and now it says Synaptips HID device, BUT scrolling or any gestures still not working, like before, i actually think that IS the wrong driver, but then where can i get proper one?

I did try editing the inf and it managed to install too but for gestures to work in windows 7 it need synaptics applications?

Edit: For windows 8 you need to download the touchpad drivers on acer website only those will work and enable all gestures.

    Hello,

I'm owner of V15 Nitro (Vn7-591G) for about 2 months now, and I'd like to make a feedback,
I've been quite happy with laptop until now, was looking for decent gaming performance at reasonnable price and laptop fullfills it perfectly.
Only cloud on the horizon, was not so good CPU Cooling, which under load reaches easily 98°C, which I think makes it throttle.
But even more worrying, since a few days, is the CPU frequency being stucked at 800Mhz (lowest frequency) always, whatever load, and os is used (windows or linux).
To confirm this I used, intel tool which indicates Thermal Throtlling of 100%!!
To further test, I pushed the laptop in standby, and when waking up, frequency goes back to normal but only for 1 minute, then Thermal Throttling directly goes from 0% to 100% and CPU is stucked at 800mhz,
THis makes the laptop slow, and unusable in games...
After investigation, I noticed, that my right fan is no longer working, only left is spinning from time to time, which would explain why thermal throttling is activated right away....
I'm going to contact Acer RMA for a return,
I wonder if I'm the only one who had bad luck with it... that 's why I posted here, in case someone report same issue,

I'm the happy owner of V17 Nitro black edition after my old aspire 5740g gpu died after 5 years of gaming and overclocking.
For those with cooling problems i found a way to control the both fans speed , and i think that auto fan speed never use the full potential of those fans , because i got even 94°C cpu temp and the fans sound aren't nearly close to the nousy sound when i set them to max speed.
You need to download rw everything from here http://rweverything.com/ and launch it , then select the "EC" tab that is circled in screenshot.
    tmp2.png
Then go to 90x03 that is for right fan near the GPU , it should h;ave value 04 for auto fan speed , you must modify it to 14 for manual fan speed then you can modify the speed in the next column (90x04) with values from 99 to 60 , where 99 value is the lowest speed and the 60 value the highest speed , in the next column (90x05) you will see the actual speed of the fan
For the left fan near the CPU go to 90x06 and do the same thing: 04 for auto fan speed , 14 for manual fan speed ; and in the next column (90x07) set the speed with values from 99 to 40 , where the 40 is the max speed of that fan.
With the fans set to maximum speed , i never exceed 65°C in GPU and 80°C in CPU that is set to run with all four cores to 3.5GHZ from intel XTU.
I think that the cooling system potential on this laptop is more efficient than the one from asus G571 which is giant.
I hope that was useful for those with high temp problems.

I run win 8.1 and i have drivers from acer website OR original cd that was with laptop, and can't install neither (i think it's the same driver actually). Well, i kind of can install them (see my older message), but that still don't change touchpad functionality.

Hey, this is great info! It even works too. Is there a makeshift way to switch between automatic mode and manual with say max fan speed? Like an executable, .bat file or something?

Yeah it does, and actually scrolling is working! But then you should use TWO fingers to scroll, what the heck, only found that accidentally. But that being said, i only managed to install driver while editing .inf file in a driver folder (it had wrong class and class guid values in it) and there's still no utility for touchpad, to change sensitivity and things like that (even my 4 years old cheapo acer had that), so i'm still far from satisfaction with all of this.... Besides, what other gestures supposed to work with it, cause i can't find anything then scrolling (finally).

thanks for the tip, that's juste what I was looking for to test if my right fan is indeed dead.. but could'nt find any tool (neither hwinfo, openhardwaremonitor or speedfan) able to control fans on this laptop..
I may try this before returning to RMA.

Just for the record, looking at motherboard disassembly here: http://www.myfixguide.com/manual/acer-aspire-v-nitro-vn7-591g-disassembly/,
    - LEFT fan is GPU
    - RIGHT fan is CPU

EDIT: my bad, I didn't see motherboard was inversed so you were right about order

There's not much features sadly besides opening the charms bar, multi tasking bar and scrolling. And yea old acer laptop touchpad has more features and is more customizable with the synaptics utility.

Looks like the price on this (the VN7-591G-74LK) dropped to around $900, which is pretty nice.

Did anyone here write a user review?

    What's the word on throttling?

The VN7-591G-74LK is the cheaper one. Do all Aspire V 15 Nitro's use the screen, or does the cheaper VN7-591G-74LK use a cheaper screen?

Could someone please confirm if the Killer Wireless N 1202 card will fit in the Acer. I have the killer car in another laptop, and I'm going to switch the cards out if the Killer one will fit into the Acer, but from the looks of it the 1202 seems to be a different size/shape. Could someone please confirm this? Also, from the posts I'm reading, the Killer 1525 will definitely fit into the Acer, right?

Also, is the Acer Coolboost application only available on the 17 inch models? I have the 15" and I can't find the app anywhere :(

Acers Nitro use M.2 slot which is rather new whereas most notebooks use mini PCI Express slot, co most likely Killer 1202 won't fit. As for 1525 it will since this card is available only in M.2 format.

    Battery issue with vn7-791-71p5.

Hi everyone, I've had this laptop for about 6 weeks, love the display, have not had any problems with the wifi (I believe I have Atheros) with a router two floors up. However, I do find that when playing games like Crysis 1 and 2 that the bottom of the laptop gets very hot. It seems like the fans never run very fast even when the system is getting very hot (some of the cores get up to 90c). I have "cool boost" enabled but I have not noticed any difference on or off. I checked my battery yesterday with BatteryMon and noticed that the "Design capacity" is 4102 mAh but the "Full charge capacity" is only 3605 mAh. Is that normal, or has my battery become degraded abnormally quickly? Could the battery problem be related to abnormal heat? Will Acer replace the battery under warranty?

I have been trying to download rweverything to speed up the fans, as suggested in an earlier post, but have been unable to get to the web site because their bandwidth limit has been exceeded.

    Thanks for any insight

you can download rweverything from here http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/RW-Read-and-Write.shtml . And as for battery it seems like your battery health is going down fast but im not sure since im using the nitro 15. Might need user with the same laptop to confirm.

Try put some thick magazine underneath your laptop while playing games, if you play while laptop is on a table. That helps a lot, as well as playing while laptop is on your knees. I play nba 2k15 on high settings while holding laptop on my legs in a bed, CPU temperatures are always below 90c, but they tend to get really high if you just put laptop on a table.

    I'm about to buy the 5200u + gtx850m + 500gb sshd version for 729€ on amazon.de
As soon as I will get the laptop, which tests do you recommend me to run to see if everything works fine?

well, I would like to see the "usual" benches like 3D-Mark and any games you happen to play as well. other than that, your personal feedback on fan noise and heat will be appreciated, too.

though I don't expect the laptop to be much different from the one with i5-4210U.
