"Starting with the new Predator 15 and Predator 17 notebooks both laptops share Intel's latest Core i7 processor (i7-6700HQ), up to NVIDIA GeForce GTX980 graphics, up to 32 gigs of RAM and up to 512GB SSDs. The Windows 10 notebooks also feature keyboards with all the backlighting and programmable keys you'd expect from a gaming rig. They'll go on sale in North America and Europe in November, starting at $1,500/€1,599 for the Predator 15, and $1,600/€1,799 for the Predator 17."

"Acer has revealed its latest Aspire V Nitro notebooks that are aimed at gamers without looking like gaming laptops. Dressed in basic-black, tapered cases, the 15- and 17-inch models still bring the latest Intel Skylake sixth-gen Core i7 and i5 mobile chips and NVIDIA GTX960M graphics with up to 4GB of RAM. You also get up to 512GB of M.4 SSD storage (2GB if you opt for hard disks), 32GB max of DDR4 RAM, USB 3.1 Type-C ports and 40Gbps Thunderbolt 3 on the top-end "Black Edition" models. All models can also be had with up to 4K screens. While the Nitro models are less aggressive than the Predator gaming laptops, they're not a whole lot more svelte, with some models at nearly 7 pounds. The 15-inch "Black Edition" model does hit 5.07 pounds, though, meaning you can at least slip it into a (strong) shoulder bag. The promised battery life is also pretty decent for a high-powered notebook, at up to 8 hours, but figure on much less for 4K gaming, obviously. The Nitro models start at $1,099/€999 for the 17-inch model and $999/€899 for the 15-incher, but we'd count on a lot more than that if you want to configure it with discreet graphics, extra RAM and an M.2 SSD. They'll arrive in Europe in September and in North America in October."

I'm excited for the V Nitro if there will eventually be a eGPU that can be used with the Thunderbolt 3; I'd buy it in an instant to keep upgrading at my leisure. The sixth gen i7 will last quite a while.
Anyone else excited for these products? It seems like Acer will just undercut everyone with price since their Predator series doesn't really offer anything "different" than the rest, per say. -

I like Predator 17. But i don't understand if it has an RGB keyboard, or only red backlight.

The 15" Predator has good potential - so far we have many good 17" Laptops on the market (G751, GT72, Clevo, Alienware ) but only very few good 15" Gaming Laptops (no ASUS, no MSI GT 15", only the AW15 and Clevo).
If they do this right, the Acer Notebooks could really be interesting. Though i dont think that the additional fan will improve the temperature crucially, the replaceable drive could be aswell used for another HDD oder Blu Ray reader/writer.
Personally, I think that the design is good, but i dont like that predator logo.
Hopefully it´s fan noise will be similar to those of the ASUS G751 series ! -
Gotta to agree about the logo.....it's a bit too much even for a "gaming" laptop but the overall design is pretty good except maybe for the red highlights around the speakers and vents around the back ( I know they are trying to stand out from other brands but it's just too much....for me anyway. I know everyone has there own taste but personally I'm not a big fan , it's minor and wouldn't prevent me from buying one if all the components and hardware mesh well ).
I like the fact there are more choices to pick from these days hopefully it will be worth it and come with the next round of the latest and greatest GPU's. Not saying a 980M GTX is in anyway going to limit you for gaming but it'd would be nice to see the rumored 990M. -
Just saw this new line of Acer Predator 17 today. Acer from my experience is garbage. They bought Gateway a few years back. I had a gateway gamer quite a while ago and really liked that machine. I have had the best luck with Asus since. If I can get a 4k glossy with it this Acer might be my next laptop. Style, name and colors I don't like too much but everything so far looks to be in the right spot.

They didn't say nothing special. Same info.
I need the weight and dimensions spec. -
Anyone knows if they have fully customizable RPG keyboard?
-
I am the exact opposite, I have the best reliability with acer. asus has let me down two times in the past 8 months so no more of their products in my house. Keeping acer only now. Maybe will try the dell xps12 if its what they say it is. but other than that I am sticking with good ole reliable acer.
-
I also found Acer very reliable. My mom had an old Acer with 8 years old! It's still run, with Windows 10 now.
-
I've got to agree I've had much worse luck with ASUS laptops than ACER.
-
Acer has not has a gaming laptop that can compete with the Asus offerings. This could possibly be the 1st. Acer has been the bottom of the barrel generic pc.
-
That is true, Acer always had lack-luster hardware compared to Asus. Now that we're on equal footing, we'll see. Acer's business hardware was always kind to me, but consumer level was poor. Asus on the other hand rarely missed, but when they did they missed the mark by miles, not inches. I'm not opposed to buying anyone as long as the price is right and it does what I need it to.
-
Again, the way I look at it, acer builds reliability into their machines. Asus builds specs and "flash" into theirs. I know where I would take the hit. Specs. If my laptop was a tiny bit slower, or less resolution in the monitor, at least I don't have to worry about it letting me down. It's a bummer to buy an asus product for 2 to 3 times as much as other models, because they were supposed to be "better". Only to have 2 of 3 develop problems, My 2 in 1 asus has major ghost touch issues, and my wife's first one never even worked out of the box. Many others have the same issues with asus. My good ole acer products whether it be my 2 notebooks, from 2007 and 2009 and my acer iconia 200 tablet are just stone cold reliable.
I was looking at the new dell 13" 2 in 1, but I can get the acer cheaper, and I know the acer will not let me down. Same with buyning a new 17" notebook. Acer it is. Hell, I'm buying 2 new phones and windows "tablets" as well. Guess what, Acer too.
I know they don't have the flash and no one is going to come up and go, hey, that's the new acer AWESOME!. that's fine by me. -
Please keep it civil and polite.
-
Why are we talking about 2 in 1 tablets, slower laptops and poor resolution in a high end gaming thread? Obviously your some kind of Acer fanboy.
-
-
Truth be told it's not a thread about who likes what nor is it about which laptops are better or more/less reliable. So let's stick to things related to newly paper-released Predator and refreshed Nitro, not anyone's personal preference.
-
I think the fanboy just wants some attention. It's like some troll going on a Ferrari forum to talk about how his Toyota Carolla gets great gas millage. Acer has been more like the Ladas and Pintos of the computer world but hopfuly that is changing with the new gamers. I highly doubt the self proclaimed fanboy has any interest in the new gaming laptops other than it is an Acer product.
-
You were the one insisting that we stick to the topic of the thread so why don't you follow your own advice and stop insulting people?
-
Actually....This "fanboy" might be buying a new gamer notebook for my personal use in the next month or so. THEREFORE, I am very interested in this new predator. I am looking at getting GTA V on it, as well as a few others.
-
I wonder if that extremely cooling slice that they were talking about in the 17" has anything to do with the full "desktop" GTX 980 for Notebook releases?
Maybe the innovation is there.
-
Sager // Clevo have listed a 6700HQ notebook or two on their reseller sites. Wonder when it'll be Acer's turn? Tick, tock, tock. Tick, tock, tock.
-
@Templesa
Probably soon - they have created a support page for these notebooks : Predator G9-791 (17" model) and Predator G9-591 (15" model) 5 days ago. There are no drivers nor apps on there, just a generic Legal Information leaflet, but that is what usually precedes the actual launch of the notebook.
That said it will most likely hit the shelves in EMEA first before coming to Americas - which is again typical for Acer as they sell far more in EMEA (and especially Europe) than in Americas. -
Thanks @downloads I figured it would be soon since other manufacturers appear ready to ship (or at least shipping soon). I'm guessing that Intel's supply of chips is also a deciding factor.
-
i wounder which will be better
msi apache 6th gen
or sager 6th gen
or acer nitro v17 6th gen -
I'm in the same boat. Sager will probably be the cheapest option, and most configurable, but they also have the ugliest design in my opinion. I feel that MSI is a little too pricy for what you get, so I'd say if the Acer's look as good as I think they will in pictures, then they'll probably be the one to buy. Especially if they come in more towards the Clevo pricing.
-
The 15" Nitro appears to be one of the best values in the market right now. 15", 6700HQ Skylake, USB 3.1 (Thunderbolt C), DDR4, 4GB GTX 960M shipped / no tax for 949.99.
I picked myself up one, so we'll see if it lives up to my expectations!jackie89 likes this.
