My new Acer Aspire 1694WLMi appears to have a problem. It randomly freezes. This can happen when idle or when doing light or heavy processing. Ive tried reinstating the factory settings (to see if it was because of something Ive installed), but the problem persists. Ive called Acer who say they will have to take a look at it, but my worry is it will not misbehave for them due to the random nature.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to what is causing it? My own thought is that it may be overheating.

Overheating a possibility (check temp google for software) - does it freeze after long use ?
Loose RAM (take 'em out reset them if you are comfortable with that)
Bad RAM or L2 cache - there is software for RAM testing - not sure about L2
Bad Power Supply - not sure how to check that
I hate intermittent issues and you are right if Acer does not do a full complete diagnosis (ie:wait for it to happen) - it may just work for them and they ship it back ....
Good Luck.............dy -
I've the same problem with 1691wmli....
I have random freezes and loads of temp!
First try to reinstall windows and then see if the freeze remains! -
I think I've identified the problem as a faulty wireless adapter in the laptop. The machine only crashes when this is turned on. I've tried updating drivers and still the problem persists. I installed a USB wireless adapter and had no problems whatsoever, but as soon as I switched back the on board adapter the crashes started again. I also read on another forum of someone with the same laptop and the same problem which was diagnosed as an overheating wireless adapter.
My problem is now going to be convincing either Ebuyer (the vendor) or Acer themselves that I have a problem. It's sod's law that it wont misbehave when they look at it!
If I cannot get them to acknowledge there is a problem, how easy is it to replace the onboard adapter? I know i could just disable it and use a USB or PC card adapter, but i'd rather not have something sticking out of the side of the Laptop.
New Acer laptop keeps freezing.
