I just got a new Aspire 2025 laptop yesterday from Buy.com.

It works great, I pulled it out of the box, installed all XP updates etc.

I installed and tried to play Q3A with latest patch installed. While in the config menu the laptop hard locked, I had to restart and received a message stating that the Mobility 9700 was the cause of the problem and that "the driver for the display device was unable to complete a drawing operation".

I uninstalled Q3A and installed Raven shield and Athena Sword. As soon as the game loaded to actualy play a level, same thing, it hard locked and I get the same "unable to complete a drawing operation".

I installed the ATI Omega drivers (from RAGE3d.com) and that did not solve any problems, still locked and needed a reboot.

I downloaded the official CAT 4.6 drivers with a mobility mod so that it will work on the 9700 mobility and still had the same problem with all games. (Q3A and Raven Shield)

I have now used the recovery disk and wiped everything to defaults, the problem still persists.

I looked at the GPU/CPU heatsink (I think they are shared) and there is a black piece of plastic on the underside of the fan vent inside the case covering the vent. I don't know if that is supposed to be there or not.

Anyway if any of you has any input that would be great. I ordered another laptop from buy.com but it will not be here until next week.

    Hey...

I have a 2025 as well and have run tons of benchmarks + 3d games and have experience no problems. You may want to check that your card is clocked at the right setting (390core/202mem).

BTW I'm using Omegadrivers based on the 4.5version.

    hope this helps

Well I finally just called Buy.com and had them ship me another one. I couldn't figure it out, I am guessing bad hardware. The laptop is awesome though and still functional just not in any 3d games. It should be here on Tuesday and I have an RMA to ship the other one back.

My 2025 from Buy.com arrives tomorrow. Hopefully I will not have the same problems, but it sounds like Buy.com was willing to take care of you. Just out of curiousity, were they easy to deal with in the event of a problem? Did you have any interaction with Acer technical support over the matter?

I must have looked at 1000 notebooks before deciding on the 2025. I have a few lingering questions, but I suppose all will be answered tomorrow! I'm hoping to be another satisfied customer.

    Run Omega's ATI drivers.

    or

Go to rage3d.com and get the mobility modifier so you can download the latest Catalyst drivers and use them on your Mobility Radeon.
