Just like I did with last laptop - an Acer 3680, Im upgrading the 5200rpm slug of a hard drive to a Hitachi 7200rpm, 16mb cache 320gb drive on my Acer 5315.
Its been about 2 years since I upgraded the HD on the 36 80, so Im a little rusty..
I have a disc (dvd) that came with the 3680 - "windows vista anytime upgrade"... If I remember correctly, I used this disc, and the key under my laptop, to load a fresh version of Vista before... but I dont remember.
So my question is- Can the "windows vista anytime upgrade" disc be used to re-load Vista on a totally brand new hard drive?![]()

I believe so. I have recently done a clean Vista Vista install using an "express upgrade" DVD. Are these the same.
If so you install Vista as a custom install... theres an "advanced" option somewhere which lets you format the HDD from the install disk... without checking for updates etc... and do not connect online with it, and do not enter the product key. When that's installed run the upgrade DVD again this time choosing "upgrade" to Vista and it should then install a legal copy of Vista. You have to do this as the upgrade will only be offered and work if a qualifying windows installation is found. I had no issues, validated OK.
