So yeah, as you can see, down here in NZ (New Zealand) our specs are completely different......now my FIRST question is:

Will this run games such as:
    -CoD 1 & 2
    -AOE (Age Of Empires) 3
-CSS (Counterstrike Source).......ANY steam/valve released games
    -etc

the reason i ask is because i can't get an honest answer from the salesperson......obviously because they want to just sell something and they'll tell you anything! So i'm asking the more experienced people in this forum

    ok, my SECOND question is:

I am getting my girlfriends mum to buy it for me from China......because of the fact that NZ has this computer rediculously OVERPRICED (Laptop itself costs $3000NZD)

BUT of course if my gf's mum buys it from china, obviously i'm gonna have the Chinese version of Windows XP (and i can't read chinese!)

Now i'm wondering, if i buy the English version of Win XP from here in NZ would i be able to install it over the Chinese version of Win XP? And how would i do it?

(NOTE: the AS5672 WLMi in china has the same specs as NZ)

    AND

What about the Graphics drive (the ATi Mobility Radeon X1400)? how would i install that after a reformat? and not only just the graphics drive all the rest

Thanks, sorry for the long post

Umm... Whats the difference? There is a 120gb HD 2gig RAM version but its called AS5672WLMi-120GB according to the US acer site and is a different model to the AS5672WLMi. If you buy it in china the main worry would be a chinese keyboard with chinese characters. Acer would supply all the drivers and if you dont want theirs ati supplies them to.

ah, i don't think the keyboards gonna be a problem, cause my gf's laptop (Dell) was brought from china, and it has all the correct keys (a,b,c,d,e,f,g, etc) in the correct position.

I was just wondering if this would run Half-Life 2, Counterstrike Source, Call of Duty, and those games?

Age Of Empires III at a decent playable rate is dubious. I found it too slow on mine, with too many effects turned off for it to be any fun.
CivIV was fine, though. X1400 is no gamers card in these machines, IMHO.

Sorry i meant run games as in:

Be able to play with playable frame rates.....such as playing CSS on the net

because my friends laptop......a Dell something, will post up the specs later when he txts me back, can run Counterstrike Source with like 40+ fps.....and his Dell laptop is like 2~3 yrs old.......now i'm thinking that since the Acer Aspire 5672 WLMi is quite a new model out and it's got an ATi Mobility Radeon X1400.......that it should be able to run CSS just as well shouldn't it? and it should have better specs then my friends 2~3 yr old dell.......plz i need advise and replies A.S.A.P cause my gf's mum needs me to decide asap

EDIT: LOL! Ok, he just txted me back

his dell laptop which i thought was like outdated is actually:

Dell Inspiron 9100 with Radeon 9800 pro in it.....lol my mistake.....

depends on the game engine and the graphics driver you are using
the x1400 is brand new and none of the general catalyst drivers are optimised for it, many dont even recognise it

mine is the 2gb machine so the gfx has 256mb ram native gddr3 and 512 in hypermemory

    HL2 runs brilliantly

you can get more Frames by installing omegadriver

can somebody PLEASE give me a definite answer? Because i can only get THIS version here in NZ......the one that i stated at the start of the topic! there is no other model here in NZ ONLY THAT ONE!

"Can or cannot, the 128mb ATi Mobility Radeon X1400 run, HL2, CoD 2, AOE 3, CS:S, etc?"

and when i mean "run games" i mean like playable fps.......btw wat fps is defined by the term "playable"?

Should mention the x1400 in the acer 5672 performs at about 3/4 of what it does in other machines with the same amount of vram..no Idea why.

the 3/4 performance has to definitely be a driver issue.
ati are still developing the driver for inclusion in their main driver, the only one that recognises it fully is the acer modified driver.

Yes this laptop will play pretty much any game, at various levels
I am currently experimenting with F.E.A.R. which has the most power hungry game engine I have ever seen, and it will play this at acceptable levels at the moment, I expect driver performance increases in the future, so it will be even more playable with more eye candy :)

You should have no problem installing xp over the top, just dont forget to download all the drivers, and remember you do also risk losing the recovery partition. so you would have to make your own backup

Thank you for replying, I was starting to worry the X-1400 might not be able to play Half Life -2. You have defenitely set me at ease. Hopefully my e1505 comes in with no problems.
