hello guys, the names jeff..welcome me to the forum.

I purchased my acer as5672wlmi from newegg in october, and it has been the BEST computer that i have ever used. I am in love with the thing. Im having one problem, it seems as though i have a few areas on the screen where the pixels are burned out,or burning out as they are a light white color.

Does anyone know if this is going to be covered by my acer manufacturers warranty? I contacted their tech support and they said that if a few pixels are burned out, then they can cover it.

Also, i have the intentions of upgrading to a core 2 duo and 2gb of ram. If I upgrade the processor, will that void my warranty? and what kind of increases have people gotten by doing this

    Welcome to the forum,.

It would be best to contact Acer to see if your warranty has a dead pixel policy and upgrading your cpu will problay void your warranty but ask acer anyways.

I'm almost sure upgrading the CPU will void the warranty. I've only seen a marginal increase when I swapped out my Core Duo for a C2D (my son needed a processor for his barebone system). Upgrading the ram and maybe the HD might be the first steps for a performance boost.

As for the stuck pixels, check Acer's policy and see if they can fix it or replace the LCD. Every company has a different policy on when they will replace the LCD due to dead/stuck pixels. If they won't help you, take a look here at techniques for fixing stuck pixels. I've used the pressure method on a s96j and it has worked for over 6 months, so far. :D

ah, dead pixels, they are the worst secret about LCD screens!
if you find out you don't have enough dead pixels you can take a chance and kill more pixels.

and i say if u want speed, get a new HDD. the original HDD is only a 5400PRM, which is SLOW compared to the 7200RPM. my p4 with a 7200RPM drive in it can unrar large files faster than my laptop.
