Not a new problem. The laptop was sent to ACER several years ago as it would not power up. Bad choice Laptop was working sort of upon return but with only 64mb RAM and not the original AC adapter. The no power problem kept cropping up intermittently. It would power up but never seemed to charge the battery. I found a new genuine ACER adapter and thought my problem was solved but that only lasted three weeks. The battery would not hold a charge for very long but given its age, that was acceptable. Today it was back to no power up. I don't suspect the motherboard is the main problem but perhaps the DC power jack or a loose wire in that vicinity. Before I do something I shouldn't, will anything but the power jack cause this type of problem?

More info: Reading ACER posts, I found a different ACER but a similar problem. The answer suggested was to boot up the laptop with no battery installed. So far that works and now I am wondering why. How does a battery influence the boot up?
