I had posted a few months ago about not hearing sound through headphones for my Travelmate 2480-2705. I looked and looked for a solution which I never found.
So I decided to go around the problem and use a Bluetooth Wireless headset.
Good idea, or so I thought. The LG HBS-200, which I was assured would work, does not.
The computer won't discover it. I went to the Acer website and updated the driver.
Has someone found a solution to the line in headset or can you please tell me what I'm missing with the LG headset?
Thanks
Kelly

Are you sure your LG headset is set on discover mode so the Bluetooth radio can find it (I'm just shooting in the dark here, I don't know if Bluetooth headsets are always in discover mode).
You do mean you can't hear sound through headphones by plugging into the Audio Out jack, not by plugging into the Line-In jack, right? -
Yes it is in pairing mode if that is the same thing as discover. It flashes blue and red.
And yes I meant what you typed.

From you're previous posts, you do get sound through the integrated speakers, which means the sound card itself is still functioning. When you plug in headphones, you no longer get sound from the laptop speakers, but you don't get sound from your headphones either, right? If it is a software problem, this will be the first time I've encountered something like this. I'm inclined to think that there is a bad connector somewhere for the jack.
I'm also at a loss as to why your Bluetooth radio fails to see the headset. Try pairing your cell phone or another Bluetooth device with your laptop. If that suceeds, then the problem lies with the headset and you should probably consider getting another pair.
If you really need to use headphones and don't mind having wires, you can purchase an external USB sound card and hook up your headphones to that. This one is fairly cheap, but you should probably read the reviews and decide for yourself:

Are you sure that machine has Bluetooth built in??? What little I can find about that model doesn't mention it. A lot of Acer notebooks have a switch on the front that says "Bluetooth", including both of my Aspires, but there is no Bluetooth installed. The hardware isn't there.
Check your documentation for that machine. You may need a BT dongle to make that headset work.
Zoomy may have your best suggestion though. -
I am moderately illiterate when it comes to computers and their workings so if the next statement I make is off please forgive me.
When I open the Control Panel, there is an Icon for Bluetooth, and when I go to the area for Sound it lists bluetooth as a choice for audio, one thing I did notice is that the driver is not digitally signed.
I have no idea what any of that means, but......
I do not mind wires at all and if that is what it will take to use my headphones I am all for it.
I will check it out. Thanks -
i have the same thing in control panel and after taking the small panel of the bottom of my laptop there is no bluetooth component installed.
next (you can slap me if this is a bit off) but are you using the right jack ?
have you tried external speakers ? -
You aren't the first individual to ask that question, and since I asked them in person what was going on and they didn't get slapped; well you won't either. Yes I am using the right jack.
The laptop speakers themselves do work, it's just the headphones/headphones jack that doesn't work.
I suppose I should give up and take it in to the guys that I work with from the IT department, but since I'm stubborn and want to figure this out without having to take it in and have it be something simple and obvious - thus having them be condescending and me once again be the "dumb blonde'.
Hopefully some day I will stumble upon what it is that went wrong or the thing that I did to make it not work.

I applaud you for being willing to stick it out and figure it out on your own.
Condescending IT guys annoy the hell out of me (actually all condescending people annoy me, but tech people especially). Just because an IT person might have more experience or knowledge when it comes to computers doesn't automatically make them better than other people who need help >.<
Anyway, did you try pairing your headphones with another Bluetooth device like a cell phone? -
Yes, it does work with my cell phone.
I did order the USB Interface Sound thing...sorry, I don't know what to call if for sure. I'm hoping that will do the trick. It should be here early next next week.
I'm not giving up on either of the others though. I am pretty sure I have bluetooth on this thing, but since I can't even install memory.....tried it, got scared and quit; there is no way I can take anything apart to tell for sure if bluetooth is part of this computer. I kind of figured they wouldn't put the bluetooth button on the front if it wasn't, second, since I did get the headphones to work again for a short while by unplugging the laptop and taking the battery off, then holding down the power button down for like 10 seconds (a friend suggested this) then trying the headphones again and it worked I'm thinking it's fixable, but how I'm just not sure.
It will all come out one way or the other....good or bad.
I'll let you know how the USB interface thing works
If anyone can come up with anything else....I'm willing to give it a try.
Thanks

The USB 5.1 Channel Audio Adapter came today, I've installed it, and it works great.
Thanks so much for the suggestion as well as the link to find this wonderful device.
Like I said earlier, I'm not giving up on finding the solution as to why they quit working, but until then....this will do the trick.
Thanks again

I'm glad the device works for you. Post back if you come across a solution or maybe something else that will help diagnose what the problem is
No sound from headphones
