Hello. First post here; so, please excuse any mistakes :)

Has anyone successfully downgraded to XP on Acer Aspire 4315-2490? I was able to get almost all devices working using drivers from Intel and other websites, but no matter what I do, I cannot get the audio to work.

I have the Realtek Audio Device, and the acer website has the driver "Realtek Audio v6.0.1.5443" for Vista. I tried several audio drivers for XP from the Realtek website, but perhaps I am missing something. Can anyone please point me to an XP driver if they know one?

I don't mind reinstalling everything if order of installation of the devices is important.

I did a search in this forum for Acer 4315 before posting but came up with nothing.

    TIA!

Andyasselin, thanks for your reply. Sorry, I should've elaborated a bit more.

I have already installed XP Professional on the laptop, but cannot get the sound working. Here is the process I followed to install XP.

    • Installed XP Pro with SP2
    • Installed Intel Chipset Inf Update
    • Applied UAA Patch from Microsoft (KB 888111) (I believe this is the patch you referred to below)
    • Installed Realtek HD Audio Driver R1.82

(Have not yet installed WLAN, LAN, Video, etc., drivers)

Following this, I got the dreaded " Device cannot start (Code 10)" message on the Realtek HD Audio Device on "Device Manager", which probably means that the driver version is incorrect. Should I be using a release other than R1.82 from the Realtek website? Is there any other driver that will work?

    Thanks again for your time!

I may be able to help....I found a good place

    http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_3680.html

It's for the 3680 laptop...that has been discontinued and replaced by the 4315. 3680 had XP on it before, and this site has those XP Drivers. I found for the modem that the Coxenant driver that came with 4315 installed fine. The driver for the network adapter on that site is wrong...but if you look on the bottom of your computer, you will find the number and brand..and you can google that and easily find it.

I've found everything I need, but I've hit a wall with the Intel VGA drive. The only Intel driver that could work is Version 14.32.3, but it doesn't even install. If anyone has solved this...please contact me as soon as you can.

    Thanks,

    Hi!

The audio driver for XP is 5.10.0.5512.
You can get it from Realtek site.
    Hope this help.

    Hey everyone,

Hopefully someone on the post can help, the rest of the information posted here has helped a lot.

I have installed XP on my Acer Aspire successfully & I have all the devices working. The issue I am now having is that XP is not finding any audio devices installed on my machine, but it will produce the standard windows sounds. When I look in the device manager, I see all of the devices installed & working properly, but I am not able to select them with in the audio properties.
