The G versions come with discrete graphics, while the non-G ones are integrated. Usually discrete graphics are more powerful, but they also draw more power. This usually means a slightly shorter battery life, though modern discrete laptops overcome this by completely powering down the discrete GPU when there is no significant graphics load on the system.

If you ever plan to play games, view (or especially edit) HD video, or if you often use your web browser with lots of tabs (>20-30) open, then get the discrete (G) version - otherwise, you will quickly find the integrated GPU short on power. Especially get the G version if it supports Optimus - in Optimus systems, there is virtually no battery life effect.
