I purchased an Aspire 6930 just before New Year's. Just recently i picked up an HDMI cable to extend the desktop onto my tv. when i plug in the HDMI cable the computer does not recognize it at all and does not give me the option to use a second monitor.

I have gone through every idea possible, included restarting w/and w/o the HDMI inserted, installing drivers, testing other cables, etc. and nothing.

I brought it back in to best buy and geek squad couldn't figure it out either. They say i need to give it to them to send to Acer to have new hardware installed. The problem is that i use this computer for school and with a massive workload, given it is my senior year in college, i can't have the computer out of my possession for 3-5 weeks.

Really hoping somebody on here can come up with another idea or if it would be plausible for me to fix it myself? TIA

sorry i dont have an answer, but i bought an hdmi cable and tried it on my new tv in china and same, nothing there and not recocnised. i thought there was something wrong with laptop. when i came back home i plugged it into my new tv here and it was instantly recognised, it is ok weather i plug in cable in before or after starting laptop and even after it has been sleeping. maybe some tv's are slightly non standard, have you tried another computer in same tv? what about dvd/satellite, does that work ok thro hdmi?
