Hi, I am wondering, since I rarely ever travel with my laptop, it's basically a desktop replacement and always plugged in, is it best to remove the battery? Will the battery over charge or have a shortened life if it stays in the laptop all the time? I read online that it's best to have a 40% charge on the battery, remove it, and just drain and charge it back every few weeks. Does this sound right? I don't have a lot of use for the battery but since this laptop is new I'd like to have a good battery with good life in it for when I do need to use it. Any advice is very welcome. Thanks!![]()

If you really wanna be anal about it, then yes storing it in a cool dry place at 40% charge is the best.
But if you keep it in, it will not overcharge because once it's done charging it will not charge anymore. -
Thanks. I'm fine with keeping it in as long as it can't over charge or anything. Just hoping to do what's best for it. Thanks again for the reply.

There are so many different views and ways at looking at battery care. Storing a lappie battery at the suggested 40% rate apparently works. Have yet to try that though..... But why worry?
My personal views are as follows:
1. If you never move your computer, a lappie is an expensive toy you probably don't need. Desktops with far better spec's are cheaper.
2. Lappies are built to be moved. Whether it is from upstairs to downstairs in your house. Or from your home to work. If you fall into this category, a lappie will suit your needs well. Mobility without a battery just does not make sense.
3. For some users (like myself) mobility, a built in UPS (AKA the battery) are the reasons why I own a lappie. The fact that my battery is in my lappie allows me to be productive and continue working away from power points etc. Or when our electricity grid fails (often these days).
Lappies are a luxury and not a necessary computing tool. A lappies battery is an integral part of mobility. It just does not make sense in removing a lappies battery and storing it to save some wear.
Just use it and rejoice in the fact that you can work when others can't.
Cheers,

Yeah I personally leave the battery in just for the sake of having a backup in case the power goes out. Many people go out and buy expensive UPS just for the sake of having a backup power source, and we as laptop owners are graced with a built in UPS and yet chose to ditch it to save a couple minutes of battery life.
